    Description
    Position Purpose: The Medical Tech/Medical Laboratory Tech is responsible for providing service excellence through quality patient care, specimen analysis and meeting all regulatory compliance.

    Essential Functions and Basic Duties

    Position Specific Performance Expectations:
    • Coordinate with Laboratory Manager in compliance and regulatory initiatives.
    • Positive and supportive team member to hospital and TMHMC staff.
    • Participates in interdepartmental process improvements and process evaluation.
    • Attend monthly staff meetings.
    • Acts as an internal consultant and educator to clinic & hospital staff in areas of expertise as needed.
    • Demonstrates a professional and caring attitude to patients and coworkers.
    • Strives to ensure continual compliance with Departmental and Hospital Policies and Procedures and State/Federal Regulations.
    • Employee participates in mandatory in-services.
    • Adheres to policies and procedures for infection control, HIPPA, safety and risk management.
    • Maintain par level supplies and restock as needed.
    • Write/amend/review updates policies and procedures to reflect practice and regulatory requirements.
    • Adheres to all safety protocols.
    • Proficient LIS operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
    • Troubleshooting of results and correlate with diagnosis.
    • Coordinates and participates on proficiency testing.
    • Critical values: identify, repeat, report to proper person and document.
    • Proficient operation of all analyzers and laboratory equipment.
    • Perform routine UA procedures and backup tests.
    • Proficiently and accurately perform micro procedures.
    • Perform routine/special hematology procedures.
    • Perform routine/special blood bank procedures.
    • Perform routine/special chemistry procedure.
    • Perform routine/special serology and coagulation procedures.
    • Proficient LIS operation.
    • Troubleshooting of results and correlate with diagnosis.
    • Maintain professional physician interaction.
    • Critical values: identify, repeat, report to proper person and document.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Completes annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.
    • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated timeframes.
    • Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff and vendors.
    • Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manages activity and time.
    • Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:
    • Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions)
    • Must be able to legally work in the United States
    • Must be able to pass a background check
    • Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)
    • Must complete employee health meeting
    Education/Licensure/Certification:
    • Must have an Associate's degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent. Refer to CLIA guidelines for testing personnel for explanation of equivalency. Standard; Testing Personnel Qualifications § b)(2)
    • Current BLS certification (or must be obtained within 90 days of start of employment)
    Experience:
    • Professional certification strongly preferred.
    • Generalist experience preferred.
    • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
    • Effective communication both written and verbal.
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • General knowledge of all Microsoft Office products.
    Position Classification: Non-exempt

    Compensation Range: $27.69 to $40.94
