    Default job background
    Description

The Shoreman/Equipment Operator is the lead person on the ground during the mobilization, production, and demobilization process of the project if a job site superintendent is not available.

This position will be responsible for leading a large portion of the mobilization process, making sure that all operations are being performed safely, correctly, and in the timely manner while the project is ongoing, and making sure that the demobilization process is properly executed for the completion of the project.

    • Work with engineering and project management to do any clearing or site preparation. They may perform some or all work to construct any geotube dewatering areas, DMMA (dredge material management area - spoil pit), or perform other earth moving tasks that are required in the initial job site preparations.
    • Assist in coordinating and offloading of all inbound equipment for the project. They will work with the dredge operator and labor team to make sure all equipment is properly offloaded and staged for setup. This will include all dewatering equipment, chemical injection equipment, and dredging equipment. They will work with the rest of the team to place the dredge in the water, assemble and/or cable any equipment, fuse or bolt the slurry pipeline, and set up all of the chemical injection and dewatering equipment which is required to perform dredging operations. Prior to dredging operations commencement, the shoreman and dredge operator will look over and perform final checks on all of the setup equipment to make sure that everything is properly mobilized based on the dredge plan and that the customer has no issues with any of the placement once pumping operations begin.
    • During dredging operations, the Shoreman/Equipment Operator will work with the dredge operator to make sure the dredging and dewatering process are working in tandem to maximize efficiency and make sure that we are meeting our production goals.
    • The Shoreman/Equipment Operator will be required to monitor all equipment performance and perform any corrective and preventive maintenance on the equipment being utilized for the earth moving, dewatering, and chemical injection process.
    • The daily duties will also include loading of dewatered solids if it is a mechanical dewatering project, monitoring the chemical injection system, taking samples to make sure the proper chemical make-down as being injected, monitoring flow rates and solids discharge, and any other tasks required to be performed.
    • On certain projects, the Shoreman/Equipment Operator will perform excavation tasks such as digging out geotubes, spoil pit excavation, assist in material hauling operations, vegetation removal (aquatic and land based), and other heavy equipment style work.
    • During equipment maintenance downtime the Shoreman/Equipment Operator will work with the dredge and labor teams to make sure that all equipment is properly functional and assist in any and all daily, weekly, monthly, and hour-based preventive and some corrective maintenance of all machines.
    • If there is an incident where corrective maintenance is required that is outside of the capability of the onsite personnel, the Shoreman/Equipment Operator will coordinate with management, mobile technicians and any equipment reps to resolve the issue in a timely manner.
    • The Shoreman/Equipment Operator will also monitor supplies such as geotubes, chemicals, and other consumable resources to make sure that a proper quantity exists to complete the project. If additional consumables are required, he will coordinate with Management for more resource allocation or procurement. If the project falls behind schedule, the Shoreman/Equipment Operator will coordinate and speak with the project manager in order to mitigate any issues that may be hindering progress.
    • The shoreman will work with the operator to quantify production volumes and monitor this through the completion of the project. These quantifications will be reported to Management in order to keep track of the projects and submit to the customer for billing. This will also be used by Management to keep a timeline and make forecasting predictions for the completion of the project. Once the project is believed to be complete, the shoreman will work with the dredge operator, survey team, management, and customers engineering representatives to make sure that all terms have been fulfilled and the customer is satisfied what the quality of the dredge cut and volume of material that has been excavated/dredged. Once all volumes have been verified and the customer has deemed the project completed, the dredging and dewatering portion of the project is finished.
    • In the demobilization phase the Shoreman/Equipment Operator will assist in the demobilization process of the project. He will assist in the coordination of all inbound truck drivers for the loadout of the equipment. He will also work with the other personnel on site to disassemble, clean, pack, and perform loading of all equipment for it to be moved off the job site. Once the demobilization process is complete, the Shoreman/Equipment Operator may stay on site to excavate any dredge spoils, other earth moving tasks, and do final grading to restore the site to its original state.
