    The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.


    The Senior Radiation Oncology Physicist's job is to provide in collaboration with the chief physicist, radiation oncologists, radiation therapy care to patients.

    The Senior Radiation Oncology Physicist is responsible for treatment planning and calibrating of radiation therapy treatment equipment.

    Along with the Radiation Oncologists, the Senior Radiation Oncology Physicist designs, plans and supervises every phase of the treatment provided in the department.

    The Radiation Oncologist retains full control of the decision on exactly how to treat a patient, including the part concerning physics and dosimetry.


    Education:

    • Attended a graduate program in medical physics, required
    • Completion of Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Residency Program

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
    • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
    • Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
    • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.)
    • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
    • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
    • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
    • Conducts routine calibration and testing of radiation producing facilities including but not limited to linear accelerators, orthovoltage unit, simulator and high dose rate in accordance to State and Federal regulations.
    • Responsible for measurement of radiation characteristics and collection of dosimetry data for clinical use.
    • Supervises treatment planning and patient dosage calculation.
    • Conducts routine patient chart review for treatment progression and accuracy and weekly chart rounds.
    • Supervises equipment repair/maintenance. Also, supervise/perform quality improvement program.
    • Responsible for Acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment.
    • Performs dose calculation/measurement to radiosensitive organ of the patient. Also, supervise/perform radiation shielding calculation /measurement and design for patient treatment.
    • Supervises in-vivo dosimetry performed by the dosimetrist/therapist.
    • Participation with administering Brachytherapy including HDR, LDR, and SirSpheres. Assist in simulation and treatment planning.
    • Complies with regulatory acceptance and handling of Radioactive Sources.
    • Reports any equipment failures or medical events to chief physicist and Network Administrator.
    • Responsible for SRS/SRT/SBRT planning & QA includes IMRT QA.
    20. Provides in-services to Radiation Oncology therapists.


    OTHER FUNCTIONS:

    • Assists the RSO in ALARA Program execution to protect the department personnel/visitors from radiation and fulfill regulation requirements.
    • Performs routine calculations.
    • Performs weekly chart checks.
    • Other related duties as assigned.

    PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
    Sitting a total of 5 hours per day up to 3 hour increments. Standing a total of 2 hours per day in 1 hour increments. Walking a total of 1 hour per day in 5 minute increments. Frequent fingering and handling, occasional firm grasping and twisting/turning. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Frequently pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds. Rarely pushing and pulling objects up to 100 pounds. Frequent stooping/bending. Occasional crouching and reaching above shoulder level. Rarely squatting, kneeling, crawling or climbing. Touching as it relates to feeling. Hearing as it relates to feeling. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision, color vision and depth perception.


    Education:

    • Attended a graduate program in medical physics, required
