The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, Waste Management and Hazardous Materials Section, is looking for an outgoing, self-motivated individual to be a part of a team with the goal of Protecting and Promoting the Public's Health. Primary duties will include conducting inspections, investigations, serving on the department emergency response/HAZMAT team, and working at Lincoln's Hazardous Waste Center and collection events.
Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with major coursework in environmental science; environmental health; environmental engineering; or biological, chemical, physical sciences; or related field; plus 2 years of experience in progressively responsible environmental science work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver's license when operating a vehicle may be necessary to the satisfactory performance of assigned duties.
May be required to hold a registration/certification specifically applicable to the area of work: Outdoor/Indoor Air Quality, Waste Management, or Water Quality: Registered Environmental Health Specialist (NEHA, State); Professional Geologist (State); Certified Hazardous Materials Manager; Certified Industrial Hygienist (ABIH); or equivalent.
Must be able to: climb stairs and ladders; work in hostile environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, chemical odors, etc.); work at height; and maneuver in tight workspaces. Assigned duties will require the manual dexterity to perform monitoring, testing and physical ability to carry the necessary equipment to conduct assigned responsibilities.
To be eligible for insurance benefits, employees must work at least 30 hours per week.
To be eligible for the retirement plan, employees must work at least 20 hours per week.
Temporary, seasonal, and unclassified employees are not eligible for benefits.
