    **Medical Laboratory Scientist II Role Summary**

    The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) II position involves the evaluation, interpretation of results, and analysis of blood and body fluids using automated and complex manual methods. This is done to ensure high-quality laboratory results within established timeframes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate specimens for quality and preanalytical errors.
    • Verify results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
    • Perform, evaluate, and document quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Receive general guidance and direction on moderately complex procedures.
    • Have knowledge of other areas in the laboratory and their relationships.
    • Work semi-autonomously to accomplish assigned tasks.
    • Verify instrument performance standards including linearity, reportable range, and method comparisons.
    • Demonstrate computer system proficiency, including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
    • Ensure proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies.
    • Assist with inventory management.
    • Communicate critical results to patient caregivers.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree required.
    • Associates degree and two years of directly related experience may substitute for the Bachelor's degree, along with meeting the requirements listed in the Experience section.
    • Successful completion of an approved clinical laboratory training internship.
    • Maintain current Florida license as a Medical Technologist certified in the specialty or specialties required by the laboratory section(s) assigned.
    • National Certification such as American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred.
    • One (1) year minimum experience. Department-specific competencies may be required based on area of assignment.
