As a Scientist on Pleno's Applications team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the scientific research and development activities for our innovative multi-omic detection platform. You will be responsible for designing, planning, and executing experiments to develop and optimize products, processes, and technologies. This position demands a strong scientific background, technical expertise, and the ability to lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams as well as external collaborators. You will be at the forefront of advancing scientific knowledge and translating it into practical applications that contribute to the growth and success of the organization.

In this role you will:

Conduct Research and Experimentation:

• Design and execute experiments to investigate and validate hypotheses related to biotechnological products or processes.
• Utilize a wide range of techniques, such as molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics to conduct research.

Work on Product Development and Optimization:

• Contribute to the development and optimization of products, ensuring high quality, efficiency, and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into innovative product solutions.

Conduct Data Analysis and Interpretation:

• Analyze experimental data using statistical tools and software to draw meaningful conclusions and identify trends or patterns.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications to communicate research findings to internal stakeholders and the scientific community.

Be responsible for Innovation and Technology Assessment:

• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements and trends in biotechnology and related fields.
• Assess emerging technologies and identify potential applications for enhancing product development and research capabilities.

Manage External Collaborations:

• Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to timelines and project objectives.
• Collaborate with project teams to establish project goals, track progress, and overcome challenges.

Project Managment and Leadership:

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including fellow scientists, research associates, engineers, and marketing professionals.

To be successful in this role you have:

• A Proven track record of conducting research and development in biotechnology, demonstrated through publications, patents, or successful product development.
• Hands-on expertise with a variety of laboratory techniques and instruments commonly used in biotech research.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw sound conclusions.
• Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities, fostering effective collaboration and mentoring.

You will be a lead candidate if you have:

• Experience with computational and statistical analysis of large datasets is a plus (Python, R, and command line)

Education & Experience:

• Ph.D., or Master's degree with related work experience in a relevant field, such as molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related discipline
• Bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience may also be considered

Note: This position will require regular onsite participation at our office/lab in San Diego, CA - to apply you should be resident in the greater San Diego County area or in the process of relocating.

The compensation range presented spans Scientist to Senior Scientist. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, level of the position, skills, knowledge and experience, internal equity, and alignment with comparable market data.
