    Description

    SCOPE:

    The Director of Corporate Tax will report directly to the Corporate Controller. The incumbent will work as a key team member Accounting Team providing corporate level specialization in all areas of tax accounting, preparation, and filing (corporate and individual shareholder taxes). The Director will lead the Tax Team, manage the third-party tax firm, and create structure and accuracy within the data collection, reconciliation, and reporting/filings within the company.

    SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES & DELIVERABLES

    FILINGS & AUDIT -
    • Prepare estimated federal and state income tax payments
    • Perform monthly prepaid & accrual review and reconciliation to general ledger
    • Prepare various state, and local tax returns, including Excise, Fuel, Revenue based, Property, and Sales & Use taxes
    • Prepare/Review other various tax filings: Annual reports, Intangible Tax, etc.
    • Prepare and file mileage-based returns - IFTA, ODOT, WDOT
    • Assist in federal and state audits
    • File for all necessary tax refunds
    • Maintain accurate tax rates across multiple systems
    • Ensure accuracy of all tax filings and payments
    • Identify tax savings and suggest ways to minimize tax liability
    EXPERTISE & BEST PRACTICES -
    • Keep abreast of current developments in the tax area
    • Research and recommend tax strategies that align with business goals
    • Research & develop processes around taxes for new jurisdictions of business
    • Develop and operationalize a "Grants & Donations" policy and program
    • Develop and assist in managing a company foundation and committee program
    • Review, research, and make recommendations on legal entity structure (corporate and family office)
    • Maintain required level of technical knowledge
    GENERAL DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT -
    • Take ownership of all areas, and related areas, of tax and operate in a "hands-on" manner as necessary
    • Manage account set up and team to ensure accuracy of data collected.
    • Provide an information source in the tax area within the company
    • Other tax projects and responsibilities as assigned
    • Assist in financial planning and analysis
    • Manage the activities of the external tax firm

    • Candidates must be highly organized and have outstanding communication skills to be successful in this role

    SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
    • Minimum 7 years as a Tax accountant, Tax Analyst, or similar role
    • Active CPA License required
    • Bachelors in Accounting and/or related field
    • Minimum 3 years as a manager or supervisory role
    • Solid understanding of MS Office and accounting software - Great Plains and Sage platforms
    • Oil & Gas distribution experience is a plus
    • Advanced Excel skills
    • SQL experience - preferred
    • Ability to work independently
    • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical skills.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    • Evidence of working well under pressure and meet hard deadlines
    • Significant experience in tax preparation and meeting Month-End Close deadlines and preparation deadlines
    • Analytical skills with the ability to synthesizes complex and diverse information as well as collect and assemble data from different systems, and use intuition and experience to complement data
    PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
    • Operates in a professional office environment.
    • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit for long periods of times, talk, and hear.
    • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, with the ability to reach with hands and arms.
    • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
