Overview:

Operates ultrasonic diagnostic equipment to examine various parts of the body in order to study a wide variety of conditions (e.g., ensuring the physical health of an unborn baby, screening the body for cancer) Maintains patient records, keeps track of inventory, order supplies, and maintains proper working order of equipment Typically is ARDMS certified Ultrasound Sonographer must perform various ultrasound services with attention to technical details to produce diagnostic information for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. An Ultrasound Sonographer shall exercise professional judgment in the performance of diagnostic service maintaining a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics. An Ultrasonographer is responsible for designated areas or procedures as required. Sonographers perform dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal structures for the diagnosis of disease it is done so with coordination of patient care and CQI activities.

• Typically is ARDMS certified

• Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup following exam specifications.
• Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the area of interest to be examined. .
• Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of the region of interest and observes the soundwave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
• Records diagnostic data during exams such as peak velocities, sizes, echogenic properties, color flow, etc.
• Performs all quality control checks as prescribed.
• Follows established imaging and procedure protocols.
• Demonstrates correct transducer choice for specific procedures.
• Instructs and prepares patients for sonographic examinations.
• Demonstrates effective time management by completing commitments within standard time frames and schedules.
• Effectively communicates and works with supervisors.
• Identifies each patient beforehand by ID bracelet.
• Identifies each order beforehand by medical record or chart.

• Procedure competency - Carotid/Vascular to include Vertebrals, Carotid and jugular veins.
• Procedure competency - Arterial and Venous Duplex for Lower Extremities

• Procedure competency - Musculoskeletal
• Procedure competency - Renals
• Procedure competency- Liver and Spleen
• Procedure competency- Pancreatic

Education:

High School Graduate (advanced degree preferred).

Candidate should have at least one year of full time experience in Clinical Diagnostic Ultrasound. (Comprehensive preferred)

A satisfactory completion of a formal training program in Diagnostic Ultrasound with at least 720 hours of instruction in all procedures is acceptable.

Eligible for Ultrasound Certification in each area required.

Must have a copy of a diploma or offical transcript of the highest level of education

Typically is ARDMS certified

Degrees, Licensure and/or Certifications:

BLS certification required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
