    TheLead Perioperative Care Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.


    In addition to the Perioperative Care Technician II (PCT II) essential job functions, the Lead Perioperative Care Tech works under the direction of a professional registered nurse to support unit and patient care needs.

    This role utilizes initiative, strives to maintain steady level of productivity.

    This individual assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment, and participates in the department's continuous quality improvement and activities.


    The Lead Perioperative Care Tech is an energetic, customer-oriented individual who functions as a central coordinator and educator for the POCT IIs team.

    This individual is expected to maintain advanced knowledge and proficiency in the unit POCT II role across the organization. The Lead Perioperative Care Tech maintains all skills and competencies related to the unit POCT II role.

    This position provides coordination which includes daily oversight, scheduling, quality oversight, orientation of new POCT II and input into the annual staff evaluations.


    Responsibilities:

    • Clarifies with the RN any special procedures or observations necessary.
    • Communicates patients' progress toward desired outcomes and diagnostic results to RN as appropriate.
    • Reports consistently patient data in a concise and thorough manner.
    • Communicates/collaborates with care team members to provide coordinated, safe and compassionate care for patients.
    • Demonstrates use of key words and behaviors, AIDET and rounding techniques to achieve excellent patient satisfaction
    • Demonstrates support and awareness of daily schedule by expediting on time starts and efficient progression of patients through perioperative services.
    • Documents patient care activities and patient data accurately using appropriate documentation forms and or information systems.
    • Performs required clinical skills in a timely efficient manor per protocol, such as: vital sign measurement, aseptic technique, non-invasive specimen collection, hot and cold applications, simple respiratory therapy, post mortem care

    Also includes:

    application of teds/pneumatic teds, clipping, preparation of IV's, restocking of unit, ambulation and toileting of patients, and maintaining a neat and orderly appearance of the unit.


    • Completes assigned patient duties within the time frame established by the registered nurse.
    • Gathers data necessary for planning the care of patients to include intake, output, and vital signs.
    • Assists with admission, orientation of patient and family to room, discharge and transporting of patients.
    • Observes patients carefully for significant changes.
    • Assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and receives written and/or oral assignments and
    * direction.

    • Maintains Education Record and participates in annual competencies.
    • Identifies own strengths and weaknesses, learning needs and goals.
    • Develops a plan to address annual learning needs and goals.
    • Demonstrates participation in continuing education activities.
    • Partners with manager to create a plan to provide employee with the necessary skills to deliver up-to-date patient care.
    • Provides Warm Open Welcome to all patients, visitors, and staff.
    • Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and other customers in a manner that shows genuine caring concern.
    • Assists with house-wide and department-wide Quality Improvement activities.
    • Reports on the unit within 5 minutes of official start time. Follows specific Perioperative dress code. Does not exceed the recommended amount of absences per NM guidelines.

    Quality Improvement:

    • Participates in system and local quality improvement goals.
    • Identifies and contributes to opportunities and processes for continuous improvement.
    • Develops procedures for routine quality checks, perform these on all units.
    • Monitors and initiates improvement projects.
    Administration


    • Responsible for POCT II work schedule to cover the units.
    • Participates in efforts to reduce costs, streamline work processes, improve and grow services we provide.
    Performs and maintains competencies for the POCT II role.

    • Develops and monitors standard processes and procedures for POCT II role.
    • Uses organizational and unit/department resources efficiently.
    • Performs and monitors equipment audits for integrity, storage, etc.
    Lead Responsibilities


    • Develops and maintains POCT II Team site, ensure valuable and pertinent information is available.
    • Anticipates and identifies problems and situations and intervenes effectively.
    • Seeks out and obtains learning opportunities. Participates in professional growth and development activities and shares knowledge from continuing education programs with staff.
    • Organizes and facilitates orientation process in conjunction with Clinical Education.
    • Coordinates precepting program for all new hires in partnership with unit managers.
    • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
    • Demonstrates confidence and success with multiple, high level, time sensitive tasks.
    • Maintains positive working relationships within POCT team
    • Collaborates with other units effectively

    Communication:

    • Maintains a therapeutic relationship to provide optimal customer-focused care.
    • Communicates effectively with patients at level appropriate to age and cognitive status, showing cultural sensitivity.
    • Interacts effectively with peers and other hospital staff to foster positive working relationships
    • Leads by example and demonstrates effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns when they occur.

    Infection Prevention/Patient Safety:

    • Contributes to the safe, effective and professional delivery of patient care including use of safety/restrictive devices.
    • Follows Infection Control policies and procedures.
    Qualifications


    Required:

    • High School or Equivalent (GED)
    • Certification from an accredited Nursing Assistant program or current enrollment in nursing program and completion of at least one clinical rotation (Proof of clinical rotation from student via transcripts or letter from clinical instructor necessary.)
    • Active CPR certification.
    • Intermediate computer skills.
    • Must possess strong communication, critical thinking, prioritization, multi-tasking and organizational skills.
    • Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills
    • Basic math skills.
    • Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment.

    Preferred:
    * - 4 years of previous experience as a certified nursing assistant/unit secretary in a hospital setting

    • Associate or bachelor degree in related field such as healthcare administration
    • Proficient in phlebotomy/blood draws/EKG/glucoscans.
