    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Individuals in the Observability Engineering role are responsible for designing, building, testing, implementing, maintaining and optimizing the monitoring and observability infrastructure, in accordance with security policies and guidelines set by the architecture teams.

    Knowledge required typically spans across server platforms, middleware infrastructure, networking, client technology and storage systems as well as application workflows.

    Additional functions and processes include service and product management, performance and capacity management, patching and version management, and Level 3 operations support of monitoring and observability tools.

    Some individuals in this role design and build the systems operating environment to meet business requirements.

    They help define metrics for monitor and optimize the performance of operating systems and applications such as Web, Messaging and Collaboration, Unix, Windows, and LAN/WAN.

    They help diagnose monitoring policy failures and take corrective action in order to ensure continuity of operations of the entire enterprise.

    Members in this role need good communication skills and must be able to work collaboratively with system users and other technical colleagues.

    Individuals coordinate and work on multiple cross-functional initiatives/work groups and projects as a team leader or advisor.

    They will develop and build highly complex systems that may have system-wide impact, integrate across the organization, and involves multiple technical environments and disciplines and complex infrastructure solutions.


    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Maintains network tools and enterprise monitoring environments
    • Ability to converse with application owners, architects, performance testers to collect requirements, pinpoint application performance bottlenecks via the monitoring & observability tools, and deliver enterprise-scale solutions
    • Strong knowledge of systems, networks, hardware, and software from an automation & monitoring standpoint.
    • Works closely with teammates to discuss progress of work, resolve issues and ensure that standards for quality and quantity of work are met.
    • Consults regularly with software and hardware vendors to resolve issues impacting computer processing, network operations, and database performance.
    • Evaluates new software and hardware to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing applications; makes necessary recommendations.
    • Ensures that all related documentation is current and accurate and ensures personal compliance to appropriate standards and established guidelines.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM SKILLS,


    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
    1. 4+ years of experience in deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting complex applications at an enterprise scale.
    2. 4+ years of experience working with APM tools (New Relic and SolarWinds)
    3. 2+ years' experience working with ServiceNow incident, problem, and change modules along with integration with enterprise management tool(s)
    4. 3+ years of experience working with Cloud solutions - building, maintaining application/infrastructure components and their observability.
    5. 3+ years of Working experience with monitoring via API, WMI, SNMP, SSH, and other means.
    6. 4+ Years of experience with programming languages (Python, Ruby)

    • Experience with Agile delivery utilizing modern cloud-based software tools and approaches (Git, CI/CD, JIRA, automated testing)
    • Experience managing, tuning, and maintaining the right balance of alerting that enables/maintain our observability strategy while eliminating non-actionable issues.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate business problems and apply application knowledge to identify appropriate solutions.
    • Proficiency in computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, data structures and algorithm design.
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Strong customer service skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines.
