Position Summary:
The Department of Plant Pathology within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) at the University of Georgia invites nominations and applications for the Department Head position.
This role reports to the Dean of CAES and is based at the Athens campus.
Operating at the full professor level on a 9-month academic-year commitment with an additional 2 months of guaranteed summer salary, the Department Head is responsible for providing leadership, advocacy, and a vision to the department's esteemed programs in teaching, research, Extension, and outreach across the Athens, Tifton, and Griffin campuses.
Tasked with sustaining and enhancing the department's reputation and prominence, particularly focusing on the teaching, research, and extension missions and locations of UGA/CAES in Athens, Griffin, and Tifton.
Facilitating interdisciplinary research and Extension programs in fundamental and applied plant pathology, supporting faculty through coaching, mentoring, grantsmanship, and professional advancement; overseeing annual faculty performance evaluations, coordinating teaching assignments, program development, and evaluation, as well as managing departmental resources across campuses.
Collaborating with CAES Assistant Deans, Research, Extension, and Instruction Coordinators, the Department Head is responsible for nurturing a culture that promotes student mentorship and success and fosters positive relationships within and beyond the department, as well as participating in policy development and strategic planning within the college.
Engaging with academic and industry partners, agricultural organizations, state and federal agencies, and other university disciplines, the Department Head also contributes to research, Extension, and teaching activities in Plant Pathology, demonstrating excellence in these areas.
