    Description

    School Counselor Job Responsibilities:

    • Advises and counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional difficulties
    • Remains accessible for teachers and students
    • Provides individual and small group support to students
    • Provides resources and ideas for teachers as they assist students in SEL in the classroom setting
    • Teaches guidance classes to students through planned activities in small groups or classroom settings to convey SEL and character/values-based curriculum
    • Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavior health specialists
    • Creates Individual Accommodation Plans by consulting with teachers and parents
    • Facilitates transitions/paperwork/testing/testing scores for lower school to middle school and 8 th grade to high school transition
    • Collaborate with outside sources and speakers to visit to help educate students and parents
    • Hosts a High School Forum inviting all of the High Schools in the area to present and share about their school with the 7 th -8 th graders

      School Counselor Qualifications/Skills:

      • Desire and ability to work with students ages Preschool through 8 th grade with diverse backgrounds
      • Ability to organize and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators, and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics that may be sensitive
      • Master's degree in Counseling/Guidance or Social Work
      • Minimum of 2 years of school counseling preferred
      • Understanding and familiarity with computer applications and word-processing functions
