    The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game works to preserve the state's natural resources and people's right to conservation of those resources, as protected by Article 97 of the Massachusetts Constitution.

    To carry out this mission, the Department exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them.

    Brief Description of Internship Position:


    The Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game (DFG) seeks a Multimedia Intern to join its interdisciplinary team and support the Department's biodiversity focus.

    DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife species, plants, and natural communities, as well as the habitats that support them.


    In September 2023, the Healey-Driscoll Administration signed Executive Order 618, which directs the Department of Fish & Game to develop the first-in-the-nation biodiversity conservation goals for 2030, 2040, and 2050 to halt and reverse the loss of the abundance and variety of species and habitats of Massachusetts.


    The Biodiversity Multimedia Intern will play an essential role in this effort-working closely with the Communications Director to produce compelling stories about biodiversity conservation efforts statewide.

    They will be expected to work independently to conduct interviews with a diverse community of partners-including non-profit leaders, academics, commercial fishing, hunting and fishing, and Environmental Justice and Indigenous communities-and highlight their stories through photography, video, writing, and graphic design.


    Description of Duties and Responsibilities:


    Work under the guidance of the Communications Director to pitch story ideas, schedule and conduct interviews with staff and external partners, create compelling photographs and videos, and write short articles to educate the public about this initiative and highlight the value of biodiversity conservation in Massachusetts.


    Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

    • Strong interest in the environment, conservation, and science communication
    • Strong storytelling skills - ability to research, pitch ideas, conduct interviews, create compelling visuals to effectively communicate about complicated topics
    • Experience in journalism, communications, photography, videography, or digital media
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software-including Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere
    • Willingness to learn and work independently.
    • Comfortable working in outdoor locations throughout the state, including on the water
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills
    Hours per week: 37.5


    Other relevant information:
    This position is hybrid and will be based out of the Department of Fish & Game's Boston office.

    Travel to locations across the state will be necessary for this role, own transportation preferred but not required and travel costs will be reimbursed.
