    Job Description:

    We are seeking a passionate and dedicated TVI/COMS Teacher to join our team and provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments. In this role, you will be responsible for teaching essential skills necessary for students with visual impairments to thrive academically and socially. Your duties will include:

    • Teaching specific skills tailored to the needs of students with visual impairments, including adapted methods for everyday activities, Braille literacy, utilization of low vision devices, and independent living skills.
    • Conducting various assessments such as Functional Vision Assessment (FVA), Learning Media Assessment (LMA), and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) assessments to determine students' abilities and needs.
    • Collaborating with family members to facilitate the integration of visually impaired students into family life and provide necessary support and resources.
    • Making referrals for additional services and support that visually impaired students may require, both within and outside the school setting.
    • Preparing or obtaining learning materials in formats accessible to visually impaired students, ensuring they have equal access to educational content.
    • Providing consultation and training to other school personnel on effective strategies for teaching students with visual impairments, promoting inclusivity and accessibility within the school community.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or related field.
    • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) required.
    • Experience working with students with visual impairments and knowledge of specialized instructional techniques and accommodations.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and other school staff members.
    • Dedication to promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and independence for students with visual impairments.
