    This position involves travel, and applicants must live within a two-hour radius from one of our offices located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, or Maryland.

    In this position, you will travel 100% of the time to work on multiple high-profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and more in many geographical areas.

    General Responsibilities:

    The Traveling Construction Materials Technician will perform various observations and tests on construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel, and asphalt.

    Throughout the projects, you will communicate with Project Managers, client representatives, contractor's representatives and other key stakeholders regarding testing and inspection results.

    Tests are performed on building construction projects and further tested in Terracon laboratories. Successful candidates will receive in-depth technical training and professional certifications as they advance in the position.


    Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
    Travel to and from projects as they are assigned to you.
    Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
    Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
    Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.

    Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the PM.Has experience and proficiency in multiple areas of field testing and inspection and or laboratory testingTrains lower level techniciansMay direct and supervise activities of other engineering technicians in the laboratory or on larger field projects.

    May interact with client and other site personnel on behalf of the Project Manager when directedMay assist Project Manager in development of scope for testing and inspection servicesMaintains equipment operation and calibration.

    Performs advanced fieldwork and assists with project management.
    Plan, schedule and dispatch Technicians to project sites based on technician skill set, certifications, location, project, and priority.
    Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with Project, Department, and/or Office Managers.

    Track projects including contractor site data and status into Construction Materials and Laboratory Management System (CMELMS).Communicate with clients to provide up to date information in regard to the company's ability to meet expected project timelines, client needs for projects and project status.

    Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects. Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
    Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects and works cohesively as a team.


    Requirements:
    100% Travel RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.

    Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and ExcelACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
    Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade IConcrete Strength Testing TechnicianCertified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation. SteelAmerican Welding Society (AWS)

    Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), orStructural Steel and/or nondestructive testing services:
    ASNT Level II FacilitiesRelevant certification for the services or project requirements (e.g. Registered Roofing Observer (RRO)) AllSuccessful completion of related internal safety certifications.
    Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.


    Preferred:


    Certifications in one or more of the following areas:NICET Level III certification in Construction Materials Testing in two or more of the following categories or NICET Level III in at least one of the following categories: Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.

    NICET Level III certification in Geotechnical in two or more of the following categories:
    Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, GeneralistICC certification in two or more of the following categories: Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel
    • Bolting, Structural Steel
    • Welding.
    American Welding Society (AWS)

    Senior Certified Welding Inspector (SCWI)American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level III certification in one or more of the following areas:

    Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).Other national, regional, state, and local Materials related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.

    This position has been categorized as a "Remote Only" position.

    "Remote Only" employees do not have a designated workspace at an office, and typically work from home or another location.

    The national standard salary range for this position is $ $32.75 per hour. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
