Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment At Jockey Hollow, there are 212 pristine acres to explore and enjoy.
With a large "L"-shaped swimming pool, Low Ropes Challenge Course and Zip Line, beautiful equestrian center, archery range, playing field, and adventurous hiking trails, the fun is endlessThe Pool Director is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of pool activities that are fun, safe and appropriate to campers' ages and abilities They also ensure compliance with GSUSA, NJ Youth Safety Act, Department of Health and ACA standards.
They are responsible for pool activities with unit plans and other specialized camp events and will direct and supervise the pool staff.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Follow and enforce all safety rules and regulations of the pool in line with Girl Scout, ACA, ARC, and NJ Youth Camp standards
Attend pre-camp training
Conduct skills test for all pool staff during pre-camp training
Organize aquatic programs; create swim schedule for units
Train, direct, and supervise lifeguards
Monitor completion of swim level recognition form by lifeguards to be sent home each session with each camper
Communicate with Camp Director about problems, changes, and make suggestions related to aquatic activities and personnel problems/changes
Integrate aquatic activities with unit plans and other specialized camp events
Document and diligently report any health and welfare concerns to the Camp Health Supervisor
Maintain proper camper-staff ratios according to outlined standards
Conduct opening and closing site inspection of equipment, caps, buddy system, and swimming records
Collaborate with Program Director to plan and conduct special aquatic events
Coordinate and supervise swimming program for overnights and assure assigned pool staff are on duty at designated times
Conduct lost swimmer rescue drills, in-service training, and staff meetings weekly
Take pre and post camp inventory of all pool equipment, providing Camp Director with requests
Maintain cleanliness and order of pool and surrounding areas
Keep accurate records of pool tests and report any problems immediately to the camp ranger
Manage care and use of all pool equipment and arrange necessary repairs
Assure the pool and pool house are kept in clean and safe condition at all times
Follow guidelines of the American Red Cross in swimming instruction procedures, submit course record sheets to American Red Cross within two weeks
Maintain alertness for campers and staff in the water and their needs
Lead and assist in swimming lessons
Report any waterfront concerns to the Camp Director
Maintain cleanliness of pool, equipment, and surrounding areas
Assist Program Director with implementation of rainy day programs
Learn and perform emergency procedures effectively
Maintain current American Red Cross swimming skill requirements, certification requirements, and documentation of related activities
Promote high camper and staff morale
Write and submit a seasonal report of aquatics area and activities
Understand and practice aquatics procedures, health, and safety
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Must be 21+ years of age
Must have current and valid certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid), WSI, Lifeguard Management
Must practice strict safety procedures while using sound judgement
Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights
Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time
Knowledge of and ability to enforce Girl Scouts, American Camp Association, DOH, and NJ Youth Camp safety procedures
Must be attentive, efficient, and timely
Regularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English language
Must be able to communicate well with other staff and community partners
Experience in supervision strongly preferred
Physical Requirements
Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
