    Scope of Position
    Performs a variety of duties in preparing patients for MRI imaging studies on patients from adolescent to geriatrics.

    Operates MRI scanner and computer to produce images of specific areas to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

    Studies physician prescribed requisitions to determine body area to be scanned and the sequence to be used. Gives patient instruction on procedure method. Injects IV contrast for organ enhancement, under the direction of Radiologist. The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient's particular physical, age specific and psychosocial needs. The patient populations served by this position includes adolescent, adult and geriatric.

    Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI).

    The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.

    Education and Experience:

    Associate of Science degree in Radiology Technology and/or a graduate of Radiologic Technology Program recognized by The American College of Radiology.

    Must be registered by ARRT. Advanced certification in MRI preferred. MRI technologist will be taught on the job, if promoted from within. Must be BLS certified.

    If not registered in MRI, technicians hired after 1/1/2017 must schedule the MRI registry to be taken within 12 months of hire.

    Minimum Physical Requirements:
    Ability to handle / roll heavy materials or patients. Physical demands greater than moderate; may require knowledge of use of appropriate equipment. Frequently bending, lifting, and pulling require proper use of good body mechanics. Often necessary to stand long periods of time and may spend most of shift on feet. Requires close mental, visual, and auditory attention in all phases of patient care activities.

    Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff, physicians, and visitors displaying a smile and maintaining a pleasant attitude.

    Must be able to wear a respirator mask. Requires high degree of concentration.


    Working Conditions:
    May be exposed to communicable disease. Incidents of exposure to blood and body fluid moderate. May be exposed to communicable disease, infection from disease-bearing specimens, infections and contagious diseases. Regularly exposed to risk of bloodborne diseases. May be exposed to radiation hazards. Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals. Subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illnesses). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency and crisis situations. May perform emergency care. Subject to interruptions, irregular hours. Requires judgment action which could result in death of patient. Handles absentee replacement on short notice. Incidents of exposure to blood and body fluids moderately high. Must, at all times, practice universal precautions.
