- Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team participating in treatment planning and transition activities. Attend treatment plan reviews and discharge planning meetings
- Perform complex assessments of patients; plan, organize and implement therapeutic recreation plan of care to meet patient needs; implement intervention techniques to bring about specific behavioral change or improvement in patients
- Organize and lead 15-20 recreational therapy activities both in and outside of the hospital environment weekly
- Conduct 1:2 or 2:1 Recreation Therapy interventions as recommended by the treatment team
- Assist in transition and/or discharge planning for patients
- Instruct patients in adapting to the recreational and community environment
- Create goals related to Recreation Therapy and maintain statistical information and documentation related to patient care; evaluate the results of the individual patient plan
- Direct, train, and coordinate the work of recreation therapy students, practicum students, and volunteers
- Participate in hospital in-services related to evidence-based practices
- Those who have graduated from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program (which qualifies to be considered for the Recreation Therapist 1-2 in-training path)
- Have 18-months of professional therapeutic recreation experience, possession of a State of Washington Therapist registration (Department of Health), and possession of a current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification through NCTRC. (Qualifies for consideration to be hired at the Recreation Therapist 2 level)
- Ability to confidently lead groups of youth with a variety of mental and behavioral health challenges
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge and experience in intervening and de-escalating in crisis or potentially dangerous situations, with the ability to safely physically intervene to protect patients from harming themselves or others
- Knowledge in adventure-based therapy, expressive arts, or music therapy is a plus

DSHS CSTC Registered Recreation Therapist - In-Training
Join our team as a registered Recreation Therapist serving youth between 5-17 at Child Study and Treatment Center (CSTC) in Lakewood, WA.
You'll serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary team providing comprehensive Recreation Therapy services, which include conducting assessments, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting therapeutic recreation interventions.
The work schedule for this position is Wednesday - Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Our Child Study and Treatment Center supports a variety of activity-based interventions which includes Expressive Arts, Adventure Therapy, and Sports/Fitness, and Music.
Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

In-Training plan:
If hired at the Recreation Therapist 1 level, you'd serve an in-training period as Recreation Therapist 1 for 18-months. At the successful conclusion of the in-training period, you'd become a Recreation Therapist 2.
