    Description
    • This position is responsible for functioning as an assistant for patient care to all physicians and physician assistants in the medical clinics. Must understand and adhere to the mission of this organization and the customer service policy. Understands the employment is contingent upon adherence to HCHN policies and procedures, the mission of the organization, JCAHO policies and procedures, OSHA standards, and other safety and health-related codes and laws.
    General responsibilities
    • Takes patients vital signs, records medical complaint and assesses patients symptoms prior to physician exam.
    • Providing medication administration by documenting the dosage, route, and site.
    • Administering injections to patients as directed.
    • Administers allergens by correctly stating the dilution.
    • Obtaining medical information from all patients.
    • Performing medical tests by using equipment such as the Glucometer, urine dipstick, pulmonary function screenings, EKG machine and all other medical equipment for testing.
    • Administers venipuncture and nebulizer treatments under the direction of the physician.
    • Assists providers with pelvic examinations and processing specimens.
    • Knowledgeable about immunizations and administration of immunizations.
    • Assisting in minor outpatient surgery procedures.
    • Administering oxygen when required.
    • Able to assess issues of domestic violence and abuse/neglect related to patient care.
    • Effectively communicating verbally with patients.
    • Observing and evaluating the patients response to care.
    • Ensure that communication with staff, patients, and external contacts occurs with courtesy, tact, and a positive attitude.
    • Communicates with patients to resolve issues of patient flow and at times when waiting room overflow is an issue.
    • Uses positive and appropriate telephone etiquette when communicating over the telephone and when providing telephone coverage when necessary.
    • Under the direction of the provider, calls prescriptions to the pharmacy.
    • Keep comprehensive medical records by charting appropriate documentation and ensure information is explained to the patient.
    • Able to assess a patients level of understanding (patient education) and communicating within the boundaries of those levels.
    • Able to address patients needs by understanding age specific growth and development and communicating with the patient based on those needs.
    • Sets up and cleans patient exam rooms before and after each use.
    • Stocks exam rooms with equipment and supplies.
    • Ensures the upkeep of the patient waiting room.
    • Maintains the patient flow for examinations.
    • Schedules referrals for patients as directed by the provider.
    • When time allows, assists with medical records, such as filing, pulling charts, etc.
    • When directed by supervisor to complete tasks essential to daily operations in the clinic.
    • Properly documenting in medical logbooks that are, but not limited to, laboratory work, PAP tests, obstetric referrals, baby deliveries, and referrals to other physicians.
    • Confirm and follow up on appointments.
    • Utilizing sample medications and documenting usage in appropriate manner.
    • Keeping comprehensive medical records by charting appropriate documentation and ensure information is explained to the patient.
    • Accurately recording prescriptions in medical files.
    • Reviews patient charts to ensure medical charts are up to date.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education and/or Experience
    • High school diploma and advanced coursework and clinical training from an accredited medical assistant program required.
    • MA Certification or registration preferred.
