    Job Summary

    Responsible for interventions involving psychiatric services and needs to Pediatric and Adolescent patients presenting to the Emergency Department for evaluation. Evaluates and collects accurate history of the illness, past mental health concerns, past and/or current psychiatric treatment, family history and thorough mental status examination. Provides crisis assessments/interventions and risk assessments to evaluate for services and level of care needs.

    Job Specific Duties

    • Completes in-depth crisis assessments and formulates plans including clinical impressions, MSE, therapeutic interventions, and disposition plans.
    • Documents inpatient's Electronic Health Record within 24 hours.
    • Complete Baker Act forms for ED patients when appropriate.
    • Makes decisions in a self-directed manner, consults with supervisor or director regarding complex cases and discusses pertinent cases with fellow social workers. Thoroughly presents case transfer information to next shift peers.
    • Makes clinical decisions in a self-directed manner, completes the evaluation of patients to determine if a Baker Act is required.
    • Assesses for Law Enforcement, legal and or DCF needs. Completes appropriate referrals to LEO/Legal and DCF as indicated.
    • Keeps records of all consults and submits required billing information and authorizations.
    • Serves as a clinical resource specializing in mental health and Baker Act Law.
    • Serves as a resource to the Criminal mental health project in community and First Responders mental health education.
    • Provides information and details to parents/legal guardians about the admission treatment process and ED to placement expectations.
    • Provide substance use screening and referrals.
    • Participates in the orientation process of new PACE and multidisciplinary team members.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Job Requirements

    • Master's Degree in Social Work
    • CPR HEART - maintain active throughout employment
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) - maintain active throughout employment
    • 1-3 years of experience in a pediatric healthcare setting

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Internship or work experience in an acute health care related field: mental health experience preferred.
    • Experience in a pediatric mental health/crisis care and specialized training in suicide assessments preferred.
    • Direct work experience with pediatric and adolescent patients and families preferred.
    • Expertise in crisis intervention and risk assessment preferred.
    • Expertise in the DSM; diagnoses and treatment methodologies.
    • Able to effectively diagnose using most current DSM.
    • Understanding of behavioral management for patients with mental illness and ability to provide educational and practical coping strategies for patient and families.
    • Experience working independently, and ability to collaborate with other team members to exceed patient care goals.
    • Able to adapt and react calmly in stressful situations.
    • Able to perform and complete thorough initial assessments.
    • Able to demonstrate strong patient and family advocacy skills.
    • Knowledge of community resource systems, diverse treatment approaches, Florida state laws regarding child abuse and domestic violence, Baker Act procedures, HIV/AIDS related guidelines, and Social Work theories/practices.
    • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive, protected health information.
    • Proficiency in Pediatric and Adolescent emotional development.
    • Proficiency in Pediatric and Adolescent growth and development regarding issues related to adolescence.
    • Knowledge of diverse cultural and spiritual perspectives related to mental illness and substance use.
    • Knowledge of Tarasoff assessments and state laws
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
