    Job description

    First United Methodist Church of Marietta is seeking a full-time Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day operations of our large, traditional church just north of Atlanta in the beautiful suburb of Marietta, GA.

    The Director is responsible for finance, human resources, facilities management, food service, and general office administration to live into our vision

    Financial Leadership:


    Prepare the annual budget and manage the church's cash flow position, including oversight of the banking, investment, and loan/line of credit positions.

    Direct and lead the financial staff, responsible for all accounting functions, including accounts payable, posting of contributions, payroll, and audits.

    Develop and maintain adequate financial controls.
    Utilize church financial software (multiple programs) to prepare all financial reports and quarterly and annual contribution statements for donors. Provide accounting support and reporting for capital campaigns and fundraising.
    Advise other staff on financial matters and compliance with budget and policies.


    Human Resources:


    Administer the salary budget for clergy and lay staff, including payment of wages and housing and appropriate deductions for taxing authorities as approved by the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).

    Implement salary adjustments and/or bonuses as authorized.

    Manage the employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, disability, COBRA, paid time off (PTO), life insurance, and the 403(b) savings plan for the lay staff and act as liaison with the North Georgia Conference of The UMC for clergy benefit administration.

    Perform all pre-employment screening of applicants, including background checks and I-9 documents. Maintain personnel files for all staff. Coordinate annual performance reviews.

    Provide input to the Senior Minister and SPRC on issues of compliance, working with legal counsel when required or requested regarding employee matters.

    Recommend changes and requisite updates to the Employee Handbook and implement changes with lay staff upon approval by SPRC.
    Coordinate training programs for lay staff, including CPR, first aid, and safety/emergency procedures.


    Facilities and Food Service:


    Supervise the Facilities Manager, Food Service Supervisor, and all maintenance, housekeeping and kitchen staff to oversee the equipment, operation, cleanliness, safety, security and upkeep of all church facilities, grounds and vehicles.

    Oversee the church calendar and scheduling of all events to provide appropriate space and setups for meetings of the congregation and the non-profit community, including appropriate collection of fees.

    Ensure compliance with licensing, fire and safety codes, and food service regulations. Evaluate property insurance programs and recommend updates to Facilities Usage Guidelines.


    General Administration and Legal:
    Coordinate the work of administrative assistants and the receptionist in support of the various ministries and programs.
    Ensure compliance with all applicable governmental regulations and requirements.
    Negotiate contracts with external vendors and service providers. Responsible for IT, copiers, and telephone systems. Assess staff office space and equipment, recommending changes and improvements.


    Church Committee Responsibilities:


    Attend regularly scheduled meetings of the Finance Committee, Board of Trustees, Stewardship Committee, Endowment Foundation, Church Council, and Charge Conference, with varied responsibilities for each.

    Also acts as a liaison to the Scholarship Committee.
    Assist the Senior Minister, Program Staff, and committee members as needed.


    Qualifications:
    Affirm and live out the values and mission of Marietta First United Methodist Church
    Working hours are determined by the needs of the church and include normal office hours in addition to some evenings and weekends
    8-10 years of administrative experience with at least 5 years managing a similar-sized organization's finance and administrative function. Experience in a church or not-for-profit environment is required. Knowledge of The United Methodist Church is a plus.
    Must have demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting as well as experience with audit, compliance, and budget development.
    Experience in overseeing multiple administrative and/or support functions within an organization
    Demonstrated ability to focus on goals, strategies, and tactics to improve financial management and reporting
    Experience in effectively communicating key data and concepts to leadership and staff as well as other church lay leaders as appropriate
    Demonstrates a hands-on approach and willing to lead by example
    Ability to multi-task and prioritize based on the needs of the church
    Ability to lead others and work collaboratively, creatively, and collegially
    Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
    Expertise in working with complex financial management applications.
    Experience with ACS a plus
    Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required
