    JOB SUMMARY:

    Trauma Patient Care

    Responsible for coordinating health care services for all trauma patients during acute and continued care periods. Assists the organized multi-disciplinary trauma team in developing a philosophy of care consistent with providing quality service, including developing educational activities related to critically injured patients. Oversees and ensures the delivery of high-quality trauma patient care by established protocols and guidelines. Collaborates with medical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to enhance patient outcomes and ensure effective management of trauma cases. The incumbent must stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in trauma care and incorporate evidence-based practices into the program. Additionally, the incumbent will represent the Trauma Team by responding to Trauma Alerts and assisting with trauma patients until placement has been determined (when in-house and possible).

    Initiatives and Program Development

    The Trauma Program Manager will develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance the trauma program's effectiveness and quality of care. Foster innovation and continuous improvement by identifying areas for growth and implementing appropriate solutions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement trauma-related policies and procedures.

    Clinical Collaboration

    Provide guidance to the trauma team, nurses, and support staff. Identify training needs and facilitate educational programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of the trauma team. Encourage a culture of professional growth and development, and foster a collaborative environment that promotes teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration within the trauma program. Cultivate positive relationships with trauma surgeons, specialists, and other physicians involved in trauma care. Collaborate with physicians and clinical nurse leaders to ensure seamless coordination of care and effective communication throughout the treatment process.

    Quality Initiatives and Performance Improvement

    Monitor and evaluate the performance of the trauma program, including clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and compliance with regulatory standards. Identify areas for improvement and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and care delivery. Establish and maintain a robust quality assurance program to ensure adherence to accreditation standards.

    Hospital Designation and Verification

    Take responsibility for the designation and verification of our hospital as a trauma center to ensure compliance with the requirements set forth by the relevant accrediting bodies. Prepare and submit necessary documentation for the designation.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION

    Master of Science - Nursing (MSN) required

    EXPERIENCE
    • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a trauma coordinator/trauma manager or 2 years of direct work with Trauma ED/ICU patients in a designated trauma center. (ACS verified center preferred)
    • Minimum of 5 years' recent nursing experience in trauma system/care, emergency departments, critical care or flight medicine
    PREREQUISITE SKILLS:
    • Basic computer skills
    • Knowledge of graphics, software and spreadsheets
    • Knowledge and experience with the use of a Trauma Registry Program
    • Knowledge of ISS Scoring/TRISS methodology
    • Knowledge of regulatory, state, county and ACS requirements related to a trauma program
    • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide variety of people
    • Excellent communication, written and verbal, presentation skills, public relations, community education, and problem-solving skills
    • An understanding of the Emergency and Trauma systems
    • An ability to work under conditions that are sometimes stressful with frequent interruptions and changing deadlines
    • An ability to establish priorities and complete activities independently or with limited supervision
    • A familiarity with quality improvement principles and techniques
    LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
    • Current Valid California RN License
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required at hire
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at hire
    • National Institute of Health Stroke Survey (NIHSS) required at hire
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required at hire
    • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 6 months of hire
    • Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within 6 months of hire
    • Trauma Program Manager Course within 5 months of hire
    • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred
    • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) preferred
    JOB FUNCTIONS:

    ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)
    • Collaborates with the Trauma Program Medical Director for the overall development and coordination of a trauma program as defined by the County of Marin Trauma Plan.
    • Organizes and develops multidisciplinary policies, procedures and protocols related to the management of the trauma patient.
    • Develops, manages and monitors the multidisciplinary Performance Improvement Plan, which evaluates the management and treatment of trauma patients.
    • Reports regularly to the Trauma committee(s) regarding the management of trauma patients and the overall status of the program.
    • Coordinates the education component of the trauma program for both MD's and clinical staff, including orientation.
    • Participates in the development and the continuing evaluation of the County destination guidelines, with particular attention to the capabilities of each facility in Marin County.
    • Represents the MarinHealth Medical Center Trauma Service to other hospitals involved with trauma care, both within and outside Marin County.
    • Works collaboratively with pre-hospital providers to monitor implementation of the Trauma Triage Guidelines and pre-hospital patient care.
    • Works collaboratively with the Trauma Services Director to develop and monitor the budget for the trauma program.
    • Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Marin County trauma system.
    • Responsible for knowledge regarding the Trauma Registry, including chart abstraction, data entry and reporting.
    • Serves as a resource for clinical practice.
    • Directs community trauma education and prevention programs by developing, implementing and evaluating programs for targeted populations and areas related to injury prevention, as well as other topics identified through a needs assessment of the community.
    • Participate in case review.
    • Participates in mandatory educational activities and in educational activities appropriate to professional goals.
    • Acts as an extended liaison for Emergency Medical Service agencies and the community.
    • Provides leadership necessary to meet and contribute to hospital goals.
    • Serve on appropriate medical staff, hospital and clinical committees and community organizations.
    • Attend management and leadership meetings as scheduled.
