    Meter Installer

    Utilities Maintenance Specialist 2, C17

    Location: Ulmerton Road, Largo, FL

    Schedule: Monday – Thursday; 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

    ** ONLY PINELLAS COUNTY GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES WITHIN THE UTILITIES DEPARTMENT MAY APPLY **

    Performs skilled work involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of equipment, lines or devices in the public utilities systems; performs routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of utilities systems and devices; trains, leads, and supervises skilled and semi-skilled employees in accordance with established procedures that require the incumbent to apply initiative and independent judgment; performs the full range of tasks and assignments associated with the utilities field maintenance support occupation and promotion to a higher level is competitive.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • High school graduate and 3 years of skilled utilities field experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Additional Requirements

  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Highly Desirable

  • Experience using Cityworks and/or Data Splice (or equivalent) to record labor, material, and test results.
  • Experience replacing and/or repairing various types and sizes of residential/commercial water meters, reclaimed water and/or sewer meters that are 3/4" - 1''.
  • Experience using both a differential gauge and manometer for testing backflow prevention assemblies
  • Experience testing a variety of types and sizes of backflow prevention assemblies/devices.
  • Illustrative Tasks (These are examples and are not all inclusive.)

  • Tests and repairs a variety of residential and commercial backflow prevention assemblies and devices.
  • Assists with the calibration, test, repair and replacement of meters that vary in size and type.
  • Provides legible and accurate reports for all tests.
  • Maintains accurate records and files including using a hand-held computer device.
  • Interacts and collaborates effectively with a variety of team members.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of standard methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in telemetry systems, utilities maintenance, and repair work.
  • Knowledge of standard methods, procedures, and equipment used in water pumping and treatment.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and maintain hand and power tools and related equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and others.
  • Ability to recognize occupational hazards and implement appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ability to use small office equipment, computers, and highly technical computer applications.
  • Ability to use or repair small, medium, and heavy equipment and machinery.
