- Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.

- Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).

- Skilled with MS Office especially Excel.
- Familiarity and/or personal experience with environmental justice.
- Ability to think logically and apply knowledge to new and unique situations.

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.
Paid Interns
Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour.

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (District) is in search of a current college student seeking an internship opportunity in the General Administration Department's Environmental Justice Section. The Environmental Justice internship will provide an exciting opportunity for students to learn about and assist with activities in various departments, sections, and program areas. Work assignments will expose students to the wide range of activities associated with Environmental Justice principles and practices. All work activities are designed to advance MWRD's Strategic Plan, which focuses on Community Engagement, Collaboration, Innovation, Equity, and Resilience.
