    Job Description

    The Director of Internal Communications is responsible for developing and leading the internal communications strategy and programs for Mount Sinai Health System during this significant phase of change both internally and externally in health care. This individual will be charged with developing and executing an enterprise-wide internal communications strategy in support of the Mount Sinai Health System, including its hospitals, the Network, and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Director will be responsible for developing innovative, inspiring, and motivating communications programs that inform and engage stakeholders so that every Mount Sinai faculty and staff member feels connected and motivated, and has a better understanding of how their role supports the Health System's goals, priorities, brand equity, and reputation. This work requires a high degree of sensitivity to different audiences.

    Responsibilities
    • Develop strong relationships with the Mount Sinai senior leadership team across all functional areas; provide communications counsel and insights on positioning and messaging that will help build greater awareness, understanding, and support for the Health System's strategic goals and priorities among faculty, staff, trainees, and students across the enterprise.
    • In partnership with the SVP, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, and the Assistant Vice President, Communications and Content, establish internal communications objectives and strategies to engage internal audiences, build and manage brand reputation, and achieve identified strategic business goals, including diversity and inclusion efforts.
    • Edit and/or oversee the editing of all systemwide and hospital-specific communications; write or assign the writing of communications as needed; publish across a wide variety of channels which may include broadcast email, intranet, internet, email and/or print newsletters, digital screens, mobile applications, and others yet to be developed.
    • Manage, motivate, and support the Internal Communications team, including staff and freelance/contract editor/writer(s).
    • In partnership with the Director of Branding, facilitate internal understanding of and alignment to the brand.
    • Work with the Vice President, Public Affairs; Assistant Vice President, Communications and Content; and system leadership to formulate strategy and messaging for crisis communications for internal audiences, and participate when necessary in command center or Joint Information Center operations.
    • Use data, including communications metrics, market research, business plans, and operational and other market data, effectively to inform and develop communications strategy. Report performance data periodically to the communications team and senior leadership.
    • Develop new and creative opportunities to tell Mount Sinai's story internally, and develop new processes and channels to reach audiences that do not use traditional platforms such as email.
    • Serve as an integral member of the centralized communications department.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Education

    Bachelors degree required. Masters in business administration or a communications-related field (including journalism) preferred.

    Minimum Related Experience
    • 7-10 years in communications working cross-functionally across a large, complex environment. Experience in health care or a closely related field required.
    • Proven track record managing people.
    • Strong editor-writer with ability to impart these skills to junior team members.
    • Experience in strategic planning and tactical implementation of internal communications programs.
    • Collaborative, strong communicator and listener with sensitivity to multiple styles and perspectives; able to build and foster strong relationships with diverse constituencies.
    • Ability to engage with and counsel senior leaders, physicians, and other Health System staff and provide leadership to direct and indirect team members to achieve objectives.
    • Strong project management skills.
    • Proven track record of moving projects forward while anticipating future demands and opportunities.
    • Must be able to coordinate multiple programs simultaneously and to develop and implement forward-thinking and creative strategies.
    • Ability to develop systems and consistently bring plans to life.
