As a Hardware Requirements System Engineer at Meta Reality Labs, you will be a part of the teams designing, building, and testing prototypes for future consumer virtual reality (VR) experiences.

The Hardware Requirements System Engineer will ensure the convergence of complex and novel sub-system and product architectures aimed at pushing the state-of-the-art consumer VR systems.

These can span new sensing systems, display and optics systems, input devices, and full VR headsets.

The role requires expert technical communication with cross-functional teams across Industrial Design (ID), hardware engineering, partnerships, supply chain and core technology groups to drive incubation of new technologies from proof of concept through integration into products for mass production.

This role requires excellent technical understanding of consumer electronics and VR systems across the stack.

Starting with a broad engineering background in electrical, mechanical, optics, semiconductors, or related fields, the ideal candidate would have strong systems skills, demonstrated leadership skills, previous roles driving architecture convergence on complex consumer electronics products, experience with SoC evaluation, optical systems, sensors, CV algorithms, software, and able to work collaboratively with experts in different fields to make architectural tradeoffs.

Hardware Systems Requirements Engineer ResponsibilitiesDevelop processes to ensure proper documentation at all stages of product development, requirements flow, verification and validation, and interaction between various subsystemsEnsure Systems Engineering is represented at architectural reviews and the needs of various subsystems are properly addressedAssist in tracking and monitoring schedule performance.

Identify solutions for recovering schedule and mitigating schedule risks.
Stay abreast of potential resource conflicts and opportunities for leveraging efficiencies with other activities and develop risk mitigation plans.
Provide leadership with insight to project expectations, priorities, perceptions, and plans.

Works on all aspects of system engineering from initial identification of risk, opportunities, and issues at the operational level through to the strategic decision processes.

Responsible for requirements and configuration management through Model Based Systems EngineeringIntegrate across the organization to provide system engineering insights to all technical execution groups and TPMsReviews and provides technical evaluations of key System Engineering documentsDevelop and review technical assessments and presentations.

Manage the impact of requirement changes, and implementing changes in requirementsManage data-driven methods for developing requirements and verification related deliverables, such as specifications, design criteria, system descriptions, and verification trackingCoordinate and facilitate technical discussions to resolve requirement issuesDrive the technical scoping and development of new technologies to deliverCollaborate with cross-functional teams on blank-slate and early-phase prototyping and product exploration, mapping it to strategic and product questions which need to be resolvedCreate hardware system metrics, KPIs, standards and toolsDrive development of system requirements to create new virtual reality experiences, and help advance technology and research roadmapTravel up to 15% time domestically and internationallyMinimum Qualifications10 years of product experience in electrical, mechanical or optical engineeringExperience building and managing technical teamsExperience with architecture and systems engineering across electrical, firmware, mechanical, audio and optical systemsExperience integrating and delivering one or more of these technologies: displays, optics, silicon, sensors, thermal systemsExperience in rapid prototyping and creating proof of concept models to share ideas and improve architectural decisionsCommunication experience working with Product Development engineers, Product Managers and other hardware/software cross-functional teamsExperience working with partnerships teams and external partners at both a supply base and product levelStart preparingLearn about how to prepare for your interview with our interview guide, tips, and interactive experiences.
