- Educating pregnant women and their families on the benefits of breastfeeding.
- Assisting new mothers with the techniques of breastfeeding.
- Conducting breastfeeding classes in person, via Zoom, and in a variety of community settings.
- Assisting WIC Nutritionists with breastfeeding consultations for WIC participants.
- Instructing WIC breastfeeding participants on the use of breast pumps, when necessary.
- Maintaining logs and inventory of breastfeeding supplies and maintaining breastfeeding equipment.
- Interviewing clients and determining their income eligibility for enrollment in the WIC program according to standard criteria.
- Issuing food benefits according to diet prescriptions, obtaining necessary signatures, and filing duplicate copy in an organized manner.
- Scheduling appointments in a computerized format; follow up on missed and future appointments.
- Answering a multi-line telephone system and processing calls efficiently and expeditiously.
- Contacting participants via text and phone to upload documents and assisting them with the process.
- Obtaining the height, weight and finger stick blood work on clients.
- Presenting a hospitality, customer centered and caring attitude.
- May be required to drive to neighborhood clinics in Potter/Randall counties.
- Must be able to work with a diverse clientele.
- Occasionally will encounter contentious clients.
- Must be computer literate.
- May work in clinics with high noise level or extreme temperature fluctuation.
- Risk of exposure to communicable diseases.
- Must have breastfed or expressed breastmilk for at least one baby
- Must have the ability to work outside of regular clinic hours and outside of the WIC clinic
- Must be able to compete the paraprofessional training for the WIC Peer Counselor
- Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent; prefer some college courses
- Requires a minimum of one year of clerical experience; two years preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
