    Description
    • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
      • Under the direction of the Radiation Oncology Manager, Chief Physicist, in cooperation of the Medical Director, the Senior Dosimetrist develops optimal treatment plans for cancer patients that maximize the dose to the tumor while minimizing dose to the surrounding normal organs. This is to occur in accordance with physicians' prescription and calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed treatment. The Senior Dosimetrist also contributes to the continuity and quality of care, in particular assuring excellent communication among all sections of the department (physicians, nurses, therapists, and front office).

      • Education
        • Required: Bachelor's degree
      • Licensure/Certification
        • Required: Current certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB)
      • Experience
        • Required: Three (3) years of experience as a Dosimetrist in a clinic; One (1) year of experience with Varian Eclipse and Aria equipment
    • Essential Responsibilities
      • Complies with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
      • Designs an effective treatment plan that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance with physicians' prescription.
      • Understands contours per guidelines.
      • Ensures dose-limiting structures are considered in the design of treatment plans and documents dose in accordance with physicians' prescription.
      • Communicates with the radiation therapist(s) and assumes an advisory role in the implementation of the treatment plan including: the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and other treatment or imaging parameters.
      • Identifies and contours normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets. Demonstrates proficiency in image registration with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET (including fusing images)
      • Uploads images of DICOM outside image CD's to PACS system.
      • Performs plans using standard dose constrains for quality plans.
      • Assists in brachytherapy procedures by performing treatment planning and dose calculations. May perform or assist in the receiving, loading, and shipping of radioactive materials.
      • Provides assistance and technical support to the medical physicist, in radiation safety and protection, qualitative machine calibrations, quality assurance of treatment plans and radiation oncology equipment.
      • Precepts medical dosimetry students in applied aspects of dosimetry as requested
      • Participates in Chart rounds and Peer reviews.
      • Verifies patient prescription, diagnosis, and identification and accurately designs treatment plan with care.
      • Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient treatment plans and related documents.
      • Communicates with co-workers on any issues which relate directly with patient care.
      • Manages time effectively and efficiently.
      • Communicates with coworkers regarding treatment planning and implementing dosimetry plan changes, set-ups, etc.
      • Enters all dosimetry charges in accurately and timely.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.
