    Dean of Students staff serve students through programs, events, resources, and services built around student support, student involvement, and student conduct.

    Our services also include Student Governance Organizations. Dean of Students is one of eight departments in the Division of Student Affairs.
    Purpose

    The communications manager reports to the Associate Dean of Students and is responsible for managing communications, marketing, and outreach for the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS).

    This includes, but is not limited to responding to media inquiries, social media, photography, video, website management, graphic design, print and electronic outreach.

    The manager will work closely with the DoS leadership to develop and expand media and marketing strategies to grow the branding and awareness of the Office of the Dean of Students.

    They will have primary oversight for DOS messaging and design that will effectively share DOS initiatives, programs, and support resources to both internal and external audiences.

    Responsibilities

    Manages media inquiry process with the support of Associate Dean of Students, including preparing statements, drafting talking points, and scheduling interviews.

    Coordinates print, electronic, and social media initiatives and outreach efforts for external and internal communications. These efforts include messaging, press releases, publications, collateral, photography, promotional plans, graphic design, videos, and event marketing. Ensures consistency with department and University branding. Reviews, revises and finalizes copy and design for digital and print materials.


    Directly supervises the three full-time staff in the communications area that work on web design and webpage management, graphic design, and social media and indirectly supervises the student staff.

    Supervision includes selection, training, evaluation, and professional development.

    Serves as liaison with UT Marketing and Communications and other campus communications staff to manage electronic and print projects.

    Leads communications efforts with DOS leadership team, including leading communication team meetings and divisional working groups as needed. Manages department promotional item orders.

    Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field. Five or more years of professional media relations and communications experience. Proven experience with digital communication strategies and social media. Strong verbal, visual communications, and organizational skills. Knowledge of video production, photography, and graphic design techniques. Ability to take initiative and balance multiple projects. Experience supervising a team. Proficient in using PC, Mac, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive communications with discretion.

    Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Work experience within a higher education setting or with the college student population. Strong project management skills, to include anticipating and planning for future strategic communications needs and delivering required updates or overhauls to key communications tools (i.e. website edits/updates, marketing materials). Demonstrated experience using innovative technology and methods to enhance outreach efforts. Social media management in a professional capacity.
    Salary Range
    $78,000 non-negotiable
