    General Summary:
    This position requires routine manual labor associated with daily cleaning, security, and safe operation of District facilities.

    Employees in this job classification are under the supervision of the Custodial Director and perform various duties requiring moderate physical strength.

    Typical routine duties include but are not restricted to moderate to heavy-duty cleaning and restorations, minor assembly and repair, and providing custodial assistance to employees on leave or light duty.

    Additionally, this position requires lamp replacement, operation of all custodial mechanical equipment, policing trash from grounds and playground areas, watering turf, sweeping sidewalks, and performing other tasks associated with the prescribed housekeeping and snow removal programs.

    Professional interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relations with coworkers, staff, students, and the general public are also requirements for this position.

    Hours and work locations will vary depending on assignments and District needs.


    Essential Functions:

    Project Duties:

    Performs furniture relocation to prepare areas for remodeling, restoration, or heavy cleaningPerforms restorations in interior building areas including classrooms, restrooms, gymnasiums, and common spaces, on a variety of surfaces including wood, tile, and terrazzo flooring.

    Provides services for special activities including setting up seating and court configurations and removing/storing props and furniture when activities concludePerforms furniture assembly and minor furniture repairs, and identifies and reports items requiring more complicated repairsAssists with training, record keeping, and administrative tasksPerforms other duties as assignedHousekeeping Duties:

    Performs operations associated with the floor care program including dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, spot cleaning, stain removal, gum removal, and carpet extraction.

    Picks up litter and empties trash; provides services for the lunch program; changes plastic waste bags; cleans and dusts restrooms, classrooms, chalkboards, erasers, pencil sharpeners, walls ceiling, light fixtures, glass, blinds, and draperies; cleans and polishes furniture; dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces; cleans mechanical grills; and keeps restrooms supplied with paper products, soap, and other items.

    Removes and replaces defective lights and replaces and adjusts ceiling tilesPicks up trash from grounds and playground areas, waters turf, sweeps sidewalks, and performs snow removal operations.

    Fills in for absent and vacant custodial positions as neededPerforms other duties as assignedQualifications:

    Education level:
    high school diploma or equivalentExperience desired: one year of experience as a Millard Custodian IOther requirements:Ability to operate mechanical equipment such as floor scrubbers, snow blowers, and other commercial-grade equipment required to maintain a buildingDemonstrated knowledge of cleaning processes and the proper usage of materials, chemicals, and equipmentAbility to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strengthAbility to follow simple oral and written instructionsAbility to establish and maintain amicable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, the general public, and fellow workersAbility to work overtime as requiredAbility to work varied schedules including swing shifts at locations throughout the districtAbility to work inside and outside buildings in fluctuating conditionsAbility to complete required trainingAbility to work from ladder and scaffoldingAble to perform assigned duties with minimum supervisionA neat and clean appearance is required
