The Associate Director of Residence Life is a professional position in the Division of Student and Campus Life at SUNY Geneseo, a distinctive, equity-centered, public honors college.
The position is expected to develop and manage programs and services that: 1. contribute to a rich co-curricular life for students; 2. contribute to individual student learning and development; 3.contribute to the field of student affairs consistent with our College vision to cultivate a distinctive, equity-centered, public honors college experience that propels learners to positively impact society; and 4.
provide service to the College community.The Associate Director of Residence Life is a member of the leadership team in the Department of Residence Life at SUNY Geneseo.
A primary focus of the position is the promotion of paraprofessional and professional staff learning through the implementation and assessment of department training, development, and co-curricular initiatives.
The Associate Director provides direct oversight of the coordination and execution of staff selection, student and staff conduct, and departmental committees.
The selected individual supervises and evaluates professional staff, manages student staff employment accountability, and is the senior resource to all paraprofessionals.
The Associate Director supports the administration of student housing and the coordination of academic, cultural, and social initiatives for resident students.
The Associate Director participates in the 24-hour senior-level duty rotation for residential emergencies and executes summer responsibilities as assigned.Supervision & Administration – provides orientation, supervision, and regular evaluation for all live-in professionals, provides indirect supervision to paraprofessional staff and professional staff who report to an Area Coordinator, serves as the leadership staff contact to all student staff members, manages all paraprofessional staff accountability measures, leads mid-level meetings with department peers to discuss professional staff performance needs as it relates to departmental functional areas, creates and updates appropriate policies and procedures and develops a process to catalog all materials
Recruitment & Training – oversees the department training committee which creates and implements ongoing professional development workshops for professional staff, performs assessment of all training initiatives, guides and provides oversight for the student staff recruitment and selection committee, performs assessment of all selection initiatives, manages all live-in professional staff recruitment and hiring
Assessment Initiatives – assesses the effectiveness of Living-Learning Communities (LLCs), student experience in the residence halls, evaluates departmental educational initiatives and programming efforts, creates and updates appropriate policies and procedures and develops a process to catalog all materials, represents Residence Life on divisional and college‐wide committees
Living Learning Communities (LLCs) – supervises the professional staff in the management of their LLCs, manages LLC housing assignments – reviews applicants, places applicants, creates assignments in Symplicity, fields inquiries, coordinates marketing, etc.
, supervises specialty positions and coordinator positions, partners with AD of Housing Operations to maintain LLC physical space, and advocates for resources, cultivates learning-focused residential environments through supervision and programmatic efforts, meets individually with professionals to ensure that end-of-year LLC reports are completedProgramming – manages and reconciles budget, provides allocation of funding to AC/RD, approves HI/ SEE proposals, performs shopping for SEEs, manages purchasing for the SEE program pantry
Committees – coordinates live-in professional and paraprofessional involvement in department, division, and campus-wide committees, supervises committee budgets, provides charges to the committees, selects membership for committees, and meets individually with committee chairs to ensure that end-of-year reports are completed, represents Residence Life on divisional and college‐wide committees
Inter-Department Collaboration – assists in disseminating information to staff and/or students relating to appropriate department events and processes, serves as a liaison to other campus offices including: Center for Community, Student Health & Counseling, Access Opportunity Program, Campus Scheduling & Special Events, Campus Auxiliary Services, and other Student and Campus Life offices
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree
Experience in the management of college/university residence halls and/or apartments with progressive upward movement.
Documented success in the areas of staff supervision and evaluation, college student support, staff recruitment, training and development, collaboration with multiple offices on a college campus, professional involvement and development, college service, or administrative responsibilities.
Professional experience in Residence Life at the Assistant Director level or equivalent.Demonstrated desire to work with and advocate for diverse students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications

Excellent customer service, collaboration, event planning, facilitation, and organizational skills.
Adaptable, creative, positive, and the ability to work autonomously and with a team.
Significant experience in problem-solving, decision-making, collaboration, team building, and training, with emphasis on facilitation of processes including, but not limited to staff recruitment and selection, learning outcomes, co-curricular development, assessment, mentoring/coaching, committee work, leadership, and crisis response.
Ability to negotiate challenging interpersonal dynamics.License/Certification

Serve as an advisor or assist in the advisement of Inter-Residence Council ( IRC ). This is SUNY Geneseo's equivalent to Residence Hall Association ( RHA ).
Serve as a liaison to other campus offices including Center for Community, Health & Counseling, Access Opportunity Program, Campus Scheduling & Special Events, and other Student and Campus Life offices.

Crisis Intervention, Counseling, and Helping
Respond to crises or emergencies; provide guidance to professional and paraprofessional staff members and students.
Provide appropriate crisis referrals and post‐crisis follow‐ups and debriefings.
Oversees the Residence Life conduct process and provides direction in residential conduct matters.
Serve in "on‐call" rotation with senior-level staff.
Participate in emergency preparedness and emergency response.
Respond to higher-level student issues and parent interactions in consultation with the Director.
In coordination with other leadership staff, disseminates critical messages relating to health, safety and service delivery to residents.
Demonstrate cultural humility and sensitivity in responding to incidents, concerns, and in conversations.
