Job DescriptionSalary: 25-30

Hours: 20-25 hours per week, flexible scheduling

Position Summary: The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the enforcement of city codes and ordinances. This position involves investigating complaints, conducting field inspections, and working closely with residents and businesses to achieve code compliance. The officer will also issue citations, prepare reports, and present cases to the City's administrative hearing process as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct regular and complaint-driven inspections of properties for compliance with city codes and ordinances related to zoning, land use, nuisance, building codes, and health and safety standards.
Provide information and assistance to the public regarding code requirements.
Issue notices of violation, citations, and correction orders; prepare case files for administrative or judicial hearings.
Work cooperatively with and provide support to other city departments, government agencies, and law enforcement entities.
Maintain accurate records and document actions taken in compliance with department policies and procedures.
Attend meetings, training sessions, and seminars as required to stay informed of current codes and law enforcement procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of municipal code enforcement principles, practices, and methods.
Ability to interpret and apply city, state, and federal regulations and codes.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with the public, city staff, and other agencies.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and tasks simultaneously.
Proficient in the use of computers and standard office software, with the ability to learn and use specialized software and systems.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands:

The position is primarily fieldwork requiring walking, standing, bending, and driving. May require lifting of up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

Work involves both office and outdoor environments. Outdoor work is performed in all weather conditions and may involve exposure to hazardous conditions and materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

Eighteen (18) years of age or older.
Valid Driver's License.
High School Diploma or GED.
Two (2) years of experience in code enforcement, law enforcement, public administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol testing.
