- Assists the "Learn to Swim" program and other aquatic-related classes.
- Assists the swim team.
- Assists with set up and operation of swim meets.
- Develops, implements, and maintains facility records.
- Assists Recreation Leader with daily operations including daily admission, class fees, registrations, and more if necessary.
- Assists with the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility on a daily basis.
- Establishes and adheres to the comprehensive manual.
- Promotes and markets aquatic programs and facilities.
- Participate in in-service training for all positions on a routine basis.
- Prepares and maintains various operational reports on attendance, inventory, first aid training, simulation activities, and other relevant duties.
- Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Six (6) months of verifiable experience as a lifeguard or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR Certification is mandatory at hire and must remain valid throughout summer camp.
- Completion of Lifeguard Training Course.
- Must pass swimming and rescue skills test (300-yard swim, 2:00 treading water, 1:40 minute brick recovery test. (Will be scheduled at a later date).
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public recreation administration.
- Knowledge in aquatic management and pool mechanical operations systems.
- Knowledge of the rules of play for a variety of sports and games, and the appropriate equipment used and facilities needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively with City staff and the public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, handle stressful situations, and adhere to prescribed routines.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work with all age groups including seniors, adults, and youth, with and without special needs
- Ability to handle distressed swimmers and patrons in a professional manner.

- Background check (fingerprinting) is required; all fingerprints will be checked through State of Florida's Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
- Must successfully pass drug test and physical exam.
- Mandatory First Aid & CPR Certification. Certification will be provided during training.
- Mandatory orientation for those selected prior to the start of camp. Location and specific dates/times will be announced at a later date.
- Must be available to work for the entire program at assigned location.
- Mandatory workday for the July 4th Celebration at the beach.
- Work shifts vary from 7:30 AM - 8:30 PM, Monday through Friday. (the city does not guarantee a consistent schedule ex 8-4)

Summary Objective
SUMMARY OBJECTIVE
Performs work that oversees a comprehensive summer aquatics programs to include swim team, junior lifeguard, "Learn to Swim" program, summer camp, special events, and open swimming. Work is performed under general supervision of the Aquatics Manager or designee and is reviewed through evaluation of work performed, results achieved, counseling, in-services and frequent discussions.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Water Safety Instructor, Certified Pool Operator, Aquatic Facility Operator, Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Work Environment and Work Hours
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Sunday-Saturday with varied shifts/hours between 7:30am-10:00pm (Required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business/program needs of the City. Hours may change based on operational needs.)
