    General Purpose:

    The Medical Assistant, under the direct supervision of a physician and as permitted by state law, carries out clinical support and administrative tasks according to their education, skills, and knowledge.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, and procedures
    • Take vital signs, height, and weight measurements, and record medical histories
    • Assist physicians/nurses with patient examinations and treatments
    • Administer medications and injections as per state regulations
    • Perform venipuncture and process specimens
    • Conduct clerical and administrative duties
    • Assist with ECGs, x-rays, and minor surgical procedures under supervision
    • Handle 'front office' tasks like answering calls, registering patients, managing medical records, and scheduling appointments
    • Supervise non-licensed staff as needed
    • Complete any other assigned tasks
    • Access and handle personal health information as necessary

    The Medical Assistant MAY NOT:

    • Independently carry out surgical procedures
    • Administer specific medications
    • Apply casts
    • Perform certain nursing procedures
    • Handle bank statements or endorse checks

    Requirements:

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistants program
    • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
    • Minimum one year of recent Medical Assistant experience
    • Additional state-specific requirements may apply

    Skills & Abilities:

    • Valid CPR training for adults and children
    • Effective communication skills
    • Valid driver's license if necessary
    • Valid auto liability insurance if using your vehicle for work
    • Meets health requirements for patient care
