    Job Summary


    Under general supervision, is responsible for servicing, diagnosing, repairing, or maintaining a variety of vehicles, small, large, and heavy equipment.

    Exercises no supervision.

    Work Hours

    7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday

    Shifts are subject to change based off departmental needs. May change to1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday

    Essential Job Functions


    • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment.
    • Inspects, diagnoses, and locates mechanical problems on vehicles,
    small, large, and heavy equipment.

    • Repairs automobiles, light and heavy trucks, gasoline engines, and
    other automotive equipment, and may require frequently lifting/carrying

    up to 25 pounds.

    • Installs and repairs batteries, lights, alternators, regulators, and
    starters.

    • Adjusts and repairs clutches and brakes and replaces shocks, struts,
    and springs.

    • Operates engine test equipment, air wrenches, and hand tools,
    operating basic mechanic tools and equipment.

    • Performs repairs on electrical heating and cooling systems.
    • Test drives automobiles, trucks, and equipment.
    • Replaces broken or defective windows on cars and trucks.
    • Makes road calls to repair problems.
    • Utilizes proper safety precautions and procedures related to work
    performed.

    • Prepares vehicles for State inspection.
    • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
    Job Requirements


    • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
    • One (1) year of experience in automotive repair.
    • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
    Preferred Qualifications


    • Experience working in a auto shop with repair experience
    • ASE certification
    • Welding experience
    • Knowledge of tools and equipment used for tire replacements and repairs
    • Knowledge of wheel balancing procedures.
    • Ability to remove, repair and replace tires on automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment.

    • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

    • Knowledge of auto shop safety procedures and practices.
    • Ability to operate engine test equipment, air wrenches, and hand tools.
    • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and defects.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
    • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
    • Working conditions are primarily in a shop environment with exposure to dust, noise and dangerous equipment and materials.
