    JOB SUMMARY


    Under supervision of the Dietitian Supervisor, the Public Health Aide provides office and patient/client support activities for public health programs and clinic operations.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    Public Health Aide general duties


    • Provide client reception, information gathering, data collection and data processing.
    • Answer phones, take messages, route calls and clients to appropriate resources.
    • Maintain files, forms, folders and other related documents. Ensure documents are accurate, up-to-date and organized.
    • Provide basic clinical support services and maintain cleanliness of clinical areas.
    • Serve as front desk receptionist for the Women Infants & Children (WIC) Program.
    • Answer incoming calls, greet and assist WIC participants, assist non-WIC participants seeking public health services.
    • Screen participant applications for income, residency, category, physical presence and identity.
    • Assist participants with completion of forms as needed.
    • Issue benefits.
    • Schedule appointments.
    • Greet and respond to participants and visitors in a professional and timely manner.
    • Process and respond to all public records requests within 24 hours.
    • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively and accurately both verbally and in writing. The use of an interpreter is acceptable.
    • Must have working knowledge of Google products and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
    • Must possess strong moral character and dedication to serving the underserved.
    • Work a set schedule to meet the needs of the program, division and agency.
    • Explain rights and responsibilities for WIC at certification and recertification appointment.
    • Explain the WIC program to participants or direct participants to view Ohio WIC Welcome to WIC video at certification and recertification.
    • Explain WIC Nutrition Card (WNC) use to participants or direct participants to view Explanation of the WN Card video.
    • Utilize tele interpreter services when working with non-English speaking participants.
    • Function as a part of the breastfeeding support team.
    • Prepare participant charts for the following business day, file charts each morning and afternoon and prepare new charts as needed.
    • Prepare participant certification packets and forms as needed.
    • Prepare required records and reports including supply orders.
    • Obtain heights, weights and hemoglobin per Ohio WIC Policy & Procedure Manual.
    • Maintain cleanliness of WIC clinic, waiting areas and laboratories.
    • Monitor and receive messages from voice mail and respond accordingly.
    • Monitor electronic faxes (if assigned) and forward faxes to appropriate staff or process documents accordingly.
    • Attend SCPH Agency and WIC meetings.
    • Perform job duties under the regulations, policies and procedures set forth by Summit County Public Health and outside agencies such as the County Fiscal Officer, Ohio Department of Health, and state and federal government.
    • Perform any other duties as required for the efficient operation of Summit County Public Health.
    • Obliges, as set forth by the Summit County Public Health Emergency Operations Plan and within the scope of their employment, to be available for emergency service during routine and non-routine hours of operation including 24/7/365 availability. May be required to have medical clearance for respiratory protection or other personal protective equipment and may be exposed to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, unpleasant smells or odors, dust, dirt, fumes, airborne particles, pesticides, toxins or caustic chemicals.

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS

    • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of one year previous office support or medical assistant related work experience.
    • Knowledge of additional languages and cultures is preferred.
    • Valid driver's license, liability insurance, automobile available.
    • Must maintain required licenses, credentials and/or certifications required for the position.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a clinic


    environment, under compromised circumstances of unavoidable disruptions such as noisy, crying, unruly children and caregivers, confined offices and different clinic locations.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

    In the event of an emergency situation, the work environment can change to outdoors during inclement weather and may require physical endurance.
