Job summary
Insulator reads and interprets blue prints instructions and other documentation or plan work activities determines amounts selects required insulation material based on materials ability to retain heat location surface shape equipment use moves materials equipment to work locations sets up work site covers seal or finish insulated surfaces access holes with plastic covers canvas strips sealants tape cement asphalt mastic fits insulation around obstructions shapes insulating materials protective coverings as required installs sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws in order to protect insulation from weather conditions physical damage measures cuts insulation for covering surfaces using tape measures handsaws knives scissors prepares surfaces for insulation application by brushing spreading adhesives cement asphalt attaching metal pins surfaces follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines may remove seal off old asbestos insulation following safety procedures completes records maintains tools equipment performs various clean-up housekeeping activities observes complies with all safety project rules including wearing required personal safety equipment performs other duties as required.
