    The position will oversee all University Institute and Center (UIC) financial activities as well as those of other assigned units. The senior manager will supervise a team of financial analysts and help build and develop a model for shared financial administration. The Senior Finance Manager partners with colleagues in the School of Medicine finance, University financial services, and central research administration to ensure that the office is a model of excellence and that resources are allocated and expended in accordance with University policy.

    The Senior Finance Manager has excellent communication and presentation skills and acts as a proxy to the Assistant Vice Provost as needed representing in meetings and attending to matters in the AVP's absence.

    Principle responsibilities include leading the annual budget, variance, and year-end close activities; preparing financial reports &; analysis, projections, and models and developing and overseeing the team of financial analysts. Research responsibilities include developing policy, attending associate dean meetings, liaising with campus grants, ensuring compliance metrics (RCR, campus scorecard), and effort, modeling F&A, and reviewing and tracking cost share commitments. May also serve as a financial manager to one or more units a business needs and staffing warrant.

    Work Performed:

    Annual Budget
    • Oversees the financial team's development and input of each unit's annual budget submission to include University funds, gifts, and endowments. Reviews submissions for accuracy, adherence to assigned budget targets, and solvency.
    • Prepares written briefs of significant findings ahead of budget meetings.
    • Prepares F&A revenue estimates based on historical analysis and current environment; conducts true-up at end of Fiscal Year.
    • Prepares space cost estimates by conducting a detailed analysis of use; conducts true-ups at the end of the Fiscal Year.
    • Partners with School of Medicine Finance Office for shared units.
    • Prepares aggregate reporting to the Provost.
    • Reviews portfolio-wide transfers for accuracy.
    Variance Reporting & Year-End Close
    • Oversees the Fall and Spring Variance reporting for assigned portfolio, updating all elements that were submitted at budget by analyzing & projecting actual results and providing explanations for materi al variances.
    • Performs periodic audits of F&A appropriation codes to ensure proper routing.
    Financial Reporting & Policy Development
    • Develop monthly projections and actual reporting templates for the financial team that clearly convey financial information for non-financial audiences, such as faculty or other unit leaders.
    • Develops and prepares aggregate monthly financial performance reports for the portfolio as a collective for Provost's Office and SoM leadership.
    • Tracks and logs financial commitments made on behalf of the Provost.
    • Works closely with the financial team to develop 3-year plans for each unit.
    • Develops, monitors, and spot checks month-end close processes - including reconciliation, accruals, and untimely transactions.
    • Develops and communicates policies in support of proper stewardship of Provostfunds.
    Training & Development
    • Will be responsible for the supervision and development of a team of financial managers.
    • Will be a resource to in-unit personnel- such as Directors and operational staff.
    Other
    • May be assigned as financial manager to a small portfolio of units or in the event of a vacancy.
    • May participate in special projects as needed.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.

    Experience

    Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE management, cost accounting, or a field directly related to a specialized area of assignment.
