Summary You will serve as an Electrician within NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies

Duties

• You will install repairs and determine necessary wiring and circuits for electric power, lighting circuits and electrical machinery in buildings and laboratory spaces.
• You will design, construct, install and repair electrical raceways and supports.
• You will determine proper size, measure, cut, thread, and bend and install rigid and thin wall conduits through the use of mechanical or hydraulic benders and pipe threading machines.
• You will install and repair electrical wiring, switches, outlets, panels, meters, light fixtures and switch boards distributing power and lighting circuits throughout buildings.
• You will install and repair transformers, electric motors, electric appliances, electric furnaces, electric welders, and electric generating equipment of various voltages, wattages, and frequencies.
• You will design and fabricate various electrical parts, using materials with the appropriate conducting, resistance or insulating properties.
• You will perform preventive maintenance inspections of various electrical circuits and equipment to insure proper and safe operating conditions

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION performing the tasks of an Electrician: Having knowledge of a variety of equipment, material, electrical circuits and controls and be able to work these together into a complete system; Able to plan, layout and complete installations or modify and repair various electrical circuits, control and equipment with the use of blueprints, specifications, wiring diagrams and sketches; Familiar with the National Electric Code and able to use formulas basic to the trade to arrive at proper voltages, resistance and amperage, or to determine adequate size of wire, conduit, raceways, circuit breakers, and overload protection to insure proper and safe operation of electrical systems; and Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools and a wide variety of test equipment used in the electrical trade
