    Summary

    Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) at Tarrant County Juvenile Services work alongside juvenile justice professionals in a unique, safe, and supportive work environment, while positively impacting the health of youth who often need the most help.

    The position requires that LVNs:
    • Perform basic technical LVN procedures in the Juvenile Center.
    • Provide direct patient care and professional clinical assistance to Registered Nurses.
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Performs duties within the scope of LVN practice/protocol.
    2. Administers immunizations, PO medications, and other injections as directed by the RN or assists other nurses as requested.
    3. Gathers blood and other specimen samples as needed.
    4. Documents appropriate information in client records and reports appropriate information to the Medical Services Supervisor and Registered Nurse.
    5. Maintains confidentiality of client information as outlined in HIPPA guidelines.
    6. Educates client on various medications and importance of adherence to medications.
    7. Delivers quality nursing care while minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm, or injury.
    8. Monitors, records, and reports symptoms and changes in condition of patients.
    9. Monitors medical supply inventory and accounts for vaccines and testing materials.
    10. Attends and participates in professional group meetings.
    11. Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of nursing.
    12. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
    Minimum Requirements

    TO APPLY, must have a High School diploma or GED or higher education.

    TO APPLY, must have One (1) full-time year of related work experience.

    TO APPLY, must have professional LVN training through an accredited program resulting in licensure.

    TO APPLY, must hold a current Texas LVN license.

    MUST PROVIDE LICENSING AGENCY AND LICENSE NUMBER IN "CERTIFICATES AND LICENSING" SECTION OF THE APPLICATION OR RISK DISQUALIFICATION.

    TO APPLY, must have a current and valid driver license and acceptable driving record and proof of liability insurance. Note: A Texas driver license is required to hold the position.

    Good knowledge of fundamental nursing concepts, practices, and procedures.

    Basic verbal and written communication skills.

    Phlebotomy knowledge.

    Basic computer skills including ability to use Microsoft windows operating system and Microsoft Office software.

    If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment
    at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.

    Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements

    While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to bend, carry, grasp/squeeze, use hand tools, hear, keyboard, kneel, lift below the waist, lift between waist, and shoulder, lift overhead, lift to the side/twist, tolerate noise, pull, push, reach, reach overhead, perform repetitive tasks, see color, see far and near, sit, squat, stand, stoop, talk, twist, use his/her hands, drive a vehicle, walk, and work alone and with others. Exposure to active infectious disease and body fluids.

    Regular attendance is essential. Incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule. Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others. Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.
