Description
Position Details
Summary
Operating Title
Postdoc in Protein Biophysics, Modeling, and Simulation
Long Classification Title
Campus Location
Durham
Department
UNH CEPS Chemical Engineering
Summary of Position
Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Harish Vashisth in Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), Durham, NH. The positions are within the broad area of protein biophysics, structural modeling, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, where the dynamics and interactions in protein-based systems are to be explored. The postdoctoral researcher(s) will be provided access to state-of-the-art supercomputing facilities with advanced GPU and data storage capabilities. Additionally, opportunities will be available for collaboration with experimental groups involved in NMR spectroscopy, chemical cross-linking/mass-spectrometry, and mutagenesis studies. Moreover, structured mentoring and professional development opportunities (attending workshops & conferences) and interactions with interdisciplinary researchers via an NIH-funded Center of Integrated Biomedical and Bioengineering Research (CIBBR) will also be provided. The appointments are initially for one year with the possibility of renewal in subsequent years pending available funding, and conditional on the satisfactory progress as well productivity of the postdoctoral researcher(s). Typical projects in the laboratory are related to development of novel MD simulation methodologies and their applications to protein dynamics and interactions, often targeted at developing therapeutic approaches.
Additional Job Information
Applicants should provide a cover letter, detailed curriculum vitae, including full publication list and the names as well as contact information of 3-4 references. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis until the position(s) is/are filled.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
An ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, structural biology, biophysics, or in a related interdisciplinary field. The candidate should have a strong background and training in theory and computational science related to molecular biophysics and biomolecular modeling, and ideally should have significant prior research experience and publications in simulations of protein/ligand interactions as well as in usage of MD simulation software (e.g., NAMD, AMBER, GROMACS, etc.). Additionally, prior experience in homology modeling and structural refinement using constraints from experiments (NMR, cross-linking/mass-spectrometry, etc.) will be considered favorably. The ideal candidate is expected to work well independently but also integrate well in a collaborative environment with experimental groups, and should have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral skills needed to effectively converse with researchers from diverse backgrounds.
