Job summary
The chief engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all machinery and associated systems aboard the boat. This includes maintaining equipment in accordance with manufacturer's standards and keeping accurate records. The engineer must also be able to perform hot work such as welding or cutting with an oxygen-acetylene torch.The job requires a strong physical presence including the ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces. Good communication skills are also necessary for working with other crew members.
This position involves standing security watch, controlling access to the vessel and screening of persons, baggage, supplies, stores and personal effects brought on board,
- Lifting equipment that may weigh in excess of 100 pounds.
- Moving equipment that is heavy, large, and awkward.
- Working at heights while transporting tools or objects.
