    Job Summary

    The Director of Accounts Payable (AP) & Accounts Receivable (AR) will lead the day-to-day functions of the AP and AR departments including managing, mentoring, and motivating departmental personnel, leading, and improving processes to maximize efficiency and results, and leading efforts to resolve complex issues. This role involves close interaction with various departments throughout the Authority including providing updates to senior management and work with other internal groups to understand and anticipate issues around AP and AR processes

    Duties & Responsibilities
    • Compile monthly AR & AP aging summaries and reconciliations to support cash flow forecasts.
    • Reconciliation of AR and AP sub ledgers to general ledger.
    • Responsible for vendor relationships and researching inquiries.
    • Participate in regularly scheduled data processes including month-end and year-end reports financial audits, 1099 reporting and other.
    • Manage the collection of overdue invoices. Prioritize high risk, overdue customers and proactively implement follow-up and action plan.
    • Processes all mandated requests for information based on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Open Checkbook/CThru reporting, and other third party and customer mandates.
    • Implement new/additional processes, polices, internal controls and "best practices" for the Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Departments.
    • Work with ITD Department to identify system issues and constraints, source an ERP software solution and implement ERP.
    • Coordinate all future ERP software upgrades to ensure minimal disruption to ERP related processes.
    • Establish work standards, develop objectives, and design / maintain effective workflow and create operating procedures.
    • Supervise and mentor Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff.
    • Manage day to day performance of AP and AR staff to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer service.
    • Act as a resource to help resolve complex problems and issues.
    • Lead and/or assist special AR and AP related projects.
    • Adhere to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the MBTA including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies.
    • Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and employees.
    • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
    Supervision
    • Supervise, monitor, and mentor Accounts Payable Supervisor/staff and Accounts Receivable staff.
    • Manage day to day performance of AP and AR staff to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer service.
    Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
    • Seven (7) years of experience working in an Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable role.
    • Five (5) years of experience in managing and leading individual employees, a team, or department.
    • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, accounting, and quantitative skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
    • Able to communicate clearly and concisely.
    • The ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
    • Successfully pass an Excel assessment exam.
    Substitutions Include
    • A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement.
    • An associate degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor's degree requirement.
    • A master's degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience.
    • A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience
    Preferred Experience and Skills
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
    • Experience with Oracle or other ERP systems.

    • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and medical Clinic screening, potentially including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings
    • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
