- Works as a track crew worker and track maintenance inspector/worker: conducts inspections of the park's track and rail system, performs special inspections to meet Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards, and carries out weekly and monthly inspections of the park's switches and frogs systems.
- Responsible for setting up Railroad Worker Protection, ensuring on-track safety for lone workers, installing derails, lockout/tag out locks, and blue flags in work areas, and communicating effectively with relevant personnel for track repairs and safety measures.
- As an FRA qualified roadway worker, may be required to work in close proximity to railroad tracks, including serving as a railroad track flagman or watchman/lookout.
- Performs various railroad track work using a variety of power and hand tools, ensuring operator maintenance on all equipment used.
- Performs operator maintenance on all equipment used such as checking fuel levels, oil checks and changes, recommended grease jobs and safety inspections.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Direct Deposit: Selectee must participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Drug Testing: Required to undergo a drug test and receive a negative result prior to appointment, with random testing thereafter.
- Incidental Driving: May be required to operate a motor vehicle as part of official duties.
- Uniform: Required to wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service standards.
- Probationary Period: New employees/supervisors in the Federal government must complete a one-year probationary period.
