    • Minimum of 3 years of experience required supervised in directly providing mental health services.
    This is a PART TIME/LONG TERM TEMPORARY position requiring open availability for all shifts located in Norfolk, VA PRN/As Needed 1040 hours annually.
    Responsibilities: A Day in the life of an Emergency Services Counselor II:
    As an Emergency Services Counselor II you will assess individuals in crisis to provide or link the individual and/or significant others with needed mental health services in the least restrictive setting, in an attempt to divert individuals from State Hospital care. Provides crisis and stabilization related activities and services. Responds to needs in person and/or by phone to requests for assistance with individuals experiencing behavioral health (mental health/and or addiction) crisis concerns, including persons with co-occurring health, developmental, and/or social vulnerabilities or crisis states. This position severs both adults and children in need. Works with individuals in pre-crisis, crisis, post-crisis, and stabilization points in their behavioral health conditions. Works in a team environment. Provides consultation and clinical supervision to clinical staff as assigned, formally through structured supervision and informally through role modeling. Supervises and observes non-licensed staff complete pre-admission screening evaluations.
    Requirements for the Emergency Services Counselor II:
    • Required: Master's or Doctoral Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, nursing, or a related human services field or equivalent.
    • Required: Three years of supervised experience in directly providing mental health services.
    • Required: BLS/CPR (must be certified or certifiable in)
    • Required: Must be an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist), LCP (Licensed Clinical Psychologist), PMHNP (Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner), or PMHCNS (Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist), or MD (Doctor of Medicine)/DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) preferred.
    • Required: Ability to pass Background Check and Drug Screen
    • Required: Must be reliable and a quick learner and have ability to multi-task with accuracy in a very busy environment
    • Required: Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as reported by the DMV

    Knowledge:
    • MH Program concepts, population, services and methods
    • Symptoms of acute mental disorders in chronic, non-chronic, and multiple disability populations
    • Consumer rights regulations
    • VA Mental Health Statutes
    • Clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
    • Criteria for Temporary Detainment Orders
    • Basic supervision techniques
    Skills:
    • Interviewing individuals in crisis
    • Utilize the current version of the DSM
    • Formulation of a differential diagnosis for individuals with multiple disabilities
    • Formulation of an intervention plan through integration of assessment data
    • Assertive communication skills
    • Accurate, appropriate and concise clinical reports
    • Completion of Mental Status examinations
    Abilities:
    • Demonstrates positive interpersonal communication and effective listening skills
    • Function as a member of an interdisciplinary team
    • Work independently with minimal supervision
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, consumers, and families
    • Demonstrate adherence to strict confidentiality and ethical standards
