    Shifts available:
    Mon-Fri 8:00 am-4:00 pm $15.00 HR 40 HR

    Securitys Primary Purpose and Function

    The Security Officer is responsible for providing security services at assigned locations with a focus on observing and reporting.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
    monitoring and reporting all activity,conducting foot patrols, vehicular patrols, golf cart patrols, and/or bicycle patrol of applicable interior and/or exterior areas;
    reporting suspicious activities, suspicious persons,
    writing detailed narrative reports,
    maintaining daily activity reports (DARs),
    enforcing post orders, site rules, regulations, policies, procedures,
    and responding to emergency situations requiring security assistance.
    Position Overview & Scope


    Conduct regular and random patrols of the interior and perimeter of the facility and identify potential safety risks, security risks and undesirable conditions.

    Provide customer service to our clients by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and when appropriate, emergency response activities.

    Must have good interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written
    communication skills and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
    Must be able to walk long distances, sit or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to kneel and bend to look into tight spaces - all with, or without, accommodation.

    Securitys Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    The following are the duties that are necessary to satisfy the minimum requirements of the position. Other duties may be assigned on an as-needed basis.


    Responsible for executing security services as outlined in the Post Order Manual and accompanying policy and procedural guidelines and as directed by SMSSI Management.

    May be responsible for conducting walking patrols of building/facility (or assigned areas within or outside the building/facility) and include vehicular patrols, golf cart patrols and/or bicycle patrols.

    Responsible for identifying and reporting security threats, unsafe conditions or hazards, and/or other emergency situations.

    Responsible for site-specific duties and tasks based on assignment, which may include customer service, loss prevention, retail security, lobby/visitor reception, service/freight elevator security, loading dock security, and/or a variety of other safety and security roles.

    Write detailed, accurate, and legible incident reports during shift, including notation of any unusual activities and how issues were resolved.

    Responsible for contacting appropriate individuals (Site Supervision, Field Management, etc.) as directed by site post orders or as needed during shift.

    Responsible for knowing all site-specific policies and procedures, and implementing emergency response activities as appropriate.
    Responsible for following all company procedures, maintaining acceptable attendance, and adhering to all grooming and customer service standards.
    Responsible for participating in all company and site required orientation and training programs.

    Respond to any incidents that occur during shift, in conformity with the Post Orders and the Companys Use of Force Policy, ensuring appropriate action is taken, all reports are properly completed, and appropriate parties are notified in a timely manner.

    Conduct security, customer service, or support function(s) as directed by supervisor or in support of client request(s).

    Minimum Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, candidates must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or experience required.     Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
    Current or prior military experience, or college education in the security field desirable.
    Minimum 1-3 years of professional-level work experience preferred. Prior experience in the security industry, law enforcement, military, and/or customer service highly desired. Experience in scheduling, operations, or other functions of the security industry a plus.
    Must possess a valid registration/permit/license required by the state in which the employee is employed.

    As a condition of employment, employee must successfully complete a background investigation and a post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test where required by the Company or client.

    Some clients require additional background screening, testing, and procedures.

    Additionally, as a condition of continued employment, employee must maintain current active status of all necessary registrations/licenses/permits required by the jurisdiction and must carry the appropriate documents at all times while on duty.

    May require a current state drivers license, clean driving record as determined by SMSSI, and the ability to safely operate motor vehicle, golf cart, and/or bicycle if assigned to a position requiring operation of such.

    Ability to provide reliable transportation (or access public transportation) to consistently get to and from work on time is required.

    Ability to write effective, concise, and legible reports.

    Demonstrated ability to be very customer service oriented, with the ability to professionally interact with all levels of individuals in a courteous manner, and to de-escalate situations before they become hostile or unsafe.

    Energetic and focused personality with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing assignments and effectively manage deadlines.

    Professional, articulate, and able to use good independent judgment and discretion.
    Outstanding verbal and written communication skills required.
    Ability to successfully interact at all levels within the organization, including with clients, while functioning as a team player.

    Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Environment


    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use both hands, is frequently required to stand, sit, stoop, talk, and hear (communicate verbally in person and via telephone and/or applicable two-way radio equipment) and must be able to read computer screens, correspondence, and reports in English.

    Must be able to write handwritten reports in the field in clear, legible English.

    The employee must be able to constantly walk with both legs, stand or walk for entire shift, and constantly reach with both hands and arms.

    May be required to drive a vehicle, golf cart or bicycle, so must be physically fit and able to pass company driving/bike handling tests.

    The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, or ramps on a regular basis to respond to emergency situations. May require periodic running.

    Must be able to perform these duties in the event of a security or emergency situation and be able to take a leadership role (act as a First Responder) in assisting others to perform these functions.

    Must be willing and able to wear the proper uniform at all times (which includes providing his/her own black socks, shoes, and belt), maintaining good personal hygiene and grooming to meet company standards, and present self in a professional, well-groomed manner (to include, maintaining a clean and neat uniform, clean and polished shoes, and clean and business-appropriate general appearance).

    The job is generally performed in various environments, to include, but not limited to indoor and outdoor assignments, in parking structures, in office settings, and the employee may be subject to adverse and/or severe conditions such as rain, cold, or heat for extended periods of time.

    The ambient noise level is usually quiet, consisting of normal conversations, business machines (copiers, printers, etc.) and telephones, but occasionally may be above normal for portions of the shift.

    Employee must be able to hear clearly, with or without reasonable assistance. Must be able to see with reasonable assistance (glasses/contacts/correctable vision acceptable) and be able to distinguish colors.

    The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.

    Employee must be customer-service focused, able to take direction from supervisors, and maintain good order and discipline through the chain of command as appropriate.

    Must be able to focus and multi-task in a busy environment, with the ability to successfully handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner (using appropriate language, volume and tone of voice).

    Must be able to clearly speak, read, and write English, and to give clear, loud, and authoritative instructions or directions to others in a security or emergency situation.

    Due to the nature of the work at some post locations, Security Officers assigned to such sites may be required to take an on-duty meal period and will not be relieved from all duties or permitted to leave the premises for meal periods.

    However, in such locations, employees are authorized to eat during their shift, and to take required rest breaks. Specific procedures for assigned locations will be reviewed during training at such locations.

    Employees assigned to such locations agree to the on-duty meal period via a signed Agreement; any employee not wishing to be assigned to such a location may revoke the meal period agreement at any time and request re-assignment to a different work location.

    Required Certifications / Licenses

    Valid drivers license.
    Current or capable of acquiring applicable automobile insurance.
    Current or capable of acquiring a Guard Card/Certification/License/Permit as may be required by jurisdictional law.
    Successful completion of a Motor Vehicle background check if in a driving position.
    Successful completion of other applicable Client, SMSSI, or jurisdictional requirements.
