    DEPARTMENT/PROJECT OVERVIEW (Location may change due to business needs.)

    The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD or Clubs) CHANGES LIVES through quality programs and guidance in a safe, affordable and fun environment. BGCGSD's mission is to inspire and enable youth to achieve academic success, build good character and responsible citizenship and make healthy lifestyle choices. We have been providing a safe, fun, and positive environment at our sites with trained and dedicated professional staff for over 75 years. Members are involved in age-appropriate activities based upon our three priority outcomes of Academic Success, Character Development, and Healthy Lifestyles.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Reporting to the Child Development Program (CDP) Director, with work direction for the Assistant Director, the Teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth, and development for children ages 6 weeks to 1st Grade. Develop and implement cognitive and language development activities; develops partnerships with the parents/caregivers and encourages participation. The CDP Teacher is also responsible for assuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing contracting agencies; BGCGSD policies and Guidelines and works collegially with other staff members of the CDP.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    • Successful completion of child protective services and criminal background check, drug screen, and physical.
    • Possession of CDP Credentials
    • Valid certification in pediatric CPR, first aid preventative health practices
    • Verification of Immunizations per SB 792 effective as of 9/1/16
    • Mandating reporting certificate

    FUNCTIONS WITH CORRESPONDING TASKS

    CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

    1. Ensures programs and activities adhere to current health and safety protocols.
    2. Develops weekly plans and implements age-appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate.
    3. Perform ongoing developmental evaluations of children as required by funding sources and develop lesson plans and follow curriculum implementation that addresses the individual needs of each child.
    4. Utilize classroom materials and routines as resources to provide an environment conductive to learning and appropriate to the development levels, interests, and special talents of the child.
    5. Develop and maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment; implement rules and practices that provide and foster discipline in the child.
    6. Provide age-appropriate activities to promote social, physical, cognitive, creative, and self-concepts of the child.
    7. Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the child's background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic, and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans.
    8. Exchange information and serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary intervention/prevention team.
    9. Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents/caregivers; encourage parent participation.
    10. Completes daily health checks regarding hygiene, safety, and overall well-being of the children; provides ongoing observations throughout the entire school year.
    11. Completes Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) and Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS)/ Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) with Associate Teacher and prepare developmental progress reports twice a year; spring and fall.
    12. Maintains up-to-date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profile, and other records as needed.
    13. Ensure Teacher Aide' are kept updated in all matters concerning the classroom and program; meetings, lesson plans, policies and procedures, and training received.
    14. Provides direction and regular supervision to Teacher Aide; completes yearly performance evaluations.
    15. Develop and implement methods to utilize classroom volunteers, classroom aides, and parent volunteers.
    16. Conduct two parent-teacher conferences yearly.
    17. Assess facility needs and perform janitorial duties or manual labor as needed – mopping, cleaning tables, trash removal, disinfecting, painting, playing games, moving equipment, etc.
    18. Employee must have the ability to rotate classrooms effectively.
    19. Employee must be able to provide coverage for other staff members during their lunch and breaks.

    ADMINISTRATION AND REPORTING

    1. Reports any symptoms of child abuse to supervisor and/or child abuse hotline.
    2. Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
    3. Reports family changes in schedules and excessive absence to administration in a timely manner.
    4. Prepare developmental progress reports as needed; maintain ongoing communications with parents/caregivers.
    5. Plan periodical parent conferences to discuss children's developmental progress, needs, and interests.
    6. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and maintaining personal networks.
    7. Regular and predicable attendance is expected.
    8. Performs related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Must have a California preschool teacher credential permit or AA Degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education with a minimum of twenty-four (24) core units in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and 16 general ed. units. (Required)
    2. Infant/toddler teachers must have the core infant/toddler units. (Required)
    3. School-age teachers must have the core school-age units. (Required)
    4. Completion of one (1) year supervised student teaching OR one (1) year of experience teaching Infant toddler, preschool-age children, and or school age. (Required)
    5. Must have and maintain a State of California Child Development Teacher Level Permit by the California Teaching credentialing or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. (Required)
    6. Versed on the policies and procedures of the California Department of Education, Child Development Division, and the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing program regulations; funding terms and conditions (Title 5 and Title 22). (Required)
    7. Documented teaching experience in an infant/toddler, preschool, and school-age classroom setting, with one (1) year of work experience in a licensed child care facility. (Required)
    8. Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills to converse diplomatically and effectively with staff, parents, and donors; innate ability to work steadily and calmly in high-pressure situations. (Required)
    9. Proven ability to work independently, to establish and revise priorities to meet shifting deadlines, and to prioritize and organize workload to meet multiple deadlines in a timely manner. (Required)
    10. Demonstrated knowledge of current concepts and best practices used in early childhood education; methods of observing, evaluating, and recording child behavior and development. (Required)
    11. Ability to work with a diverse population at all levels of the organization including, staff, club members, donors, families, and representatives from external organizations with proven ability to work as part of a cohesive team. (Required)
    12. Ability to effectively plan in a timely manner, meet deadlines, organize and implement educational activities, make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being. (Required)
    13. Demonstrated experience using computers and relevant software applications, including database management, spreadsheets, research, calendaring, and word processing. (Required)
    14. Valid CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications must be acquired. (Required)
