    Position Overview

    Primary Function:

    Assist Head Athletic Trainer with overseeing medical care regarding all varsity student-athletes participating in 24 varsity sports. Evaluate and treat athletic injuries, rehabilitate athletes, and recommend injury prevention strategies.

    This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by the supervisor after completion.

    Position Description

    Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Evaluate athletic injuries; administer proper first aid and emergency care.
    • Direct treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
    • Make appropriate physician referrals for further diagnosis and treatment or appropriate follow-up care.
    • Maintain and organize Fowler Center Athletic Training Room and Kyle Rote Soccer / Lacrosse Facility Athletic Training Room.
    • Maintain injury/medical files including correspondence with physicians.
    • Communicate with coaches, administrators, physicians, and parents regarding injury status of athletes.
    • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with varsity sport coverage, including home and away contests.
    • Assist Head Athletic Trainer in ensuring all varsity sport practices are staffed either on site or in the Athletic Training Room by a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).

    Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

    • rehabilitative equipment and whirlpools
    • ImPACT Concussion Management Program
    Budgetary Responsibility: None.

    Personal Interaction/Communication:
    • Student Contact: Daily; working with student-athletes
    • Internal: Frequent; working with coaches and administrators
    • External: Frequent; contacting physicians and parents of student-athletes and the University Health Services
    Attributes of a Successful Candidate

    Education:
    Bachelor's degree in related field Master's degree preferred

    Experience:
    3 years experience in an Athletic Training setting

    Licenses/Certifications:
    • National Certification (NATABOC)
    • TN State Licensure
    • Valid Driver's License F Endorsement
    Supplemental Information

    Working Environment:
    • Work is performed in office setting and within athletic facilities.
    • (Approximately 60 hours per week, Fall, Winter, Spring)
    • Travel is required to athletic contests and accompanying athletes to visits with physicians.
    • Practice coverage includes late afternoons and evenings.
    • Game coverage includes nights and weekends.
    • Exposure to bodily fluids.
    Physical Requirements:

    • This position has a yearly scheduled appointment of 9.5 months.
