    Description

    Job Title: Sr. Mechanical Engineer

    Job Summary: Alsym Energy is looking for a self-driven and motivated engineer with a passion in the field of energy storage. In this position, the candidate will have an opportunity to drive rapid and innovative advancements in materials and processes for next-generation energy storage systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for active R&D efforts and will work closely with a team of engineers and scientists to deliver products with demanding performance requirements.

    Industry Background: Energy storage systems is a rapidly emerging field. Over the last few years, supply-chain constraints and significant safety incidents arising from lithium-ion batteries globally have resulted in a dramatic increase in costs and reduced confidence in the reliability of the technology. Alsym is working on an exciting proprietary aqueous battery technology that is expected to compete with state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries while offering the technology at a fraction of the cost and with inherent non-flammability.

    Key Qualifications:

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
    • 6+ years industry experience with demonstrated success in mechanical design, product development, electro-mechanical + sensor integration.
    • Strong communicator and self-motivated team player with a problem-solving mindset.
    • Hands-on experience with modern prototyping techniques is required (3D Printing, laser-cutting, injection molding etc.). Familiarity with battery pack design and packaging is desirable.
    • Strong skills in creating releasable Mechanical Drawings (with proper GD&T) is required.
    • Hands-on individual capable of prototyping designs and then delegating to others
    • Strong competency with engineering software tools is required (CAD, CAM, simulation etc.)
    • Strong documentation practices are required.
    • Experience with BMS (Battery Management Systems) is desirable.
    • Strong grasp of mech. engineering fundamentals is required (statics, materials, thermodynamics etc.)

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Produce mechanical designs for battery modules and packs.
    • Build alpha prototype packs in-house and train technicians for pack building scale-up.
    • Interface with component suppliers to source parts.
    • Conduct experiments in the lab using prototype materials to guide the design efforts.
    • Assist the equipment or production team in mechanical modifications to key process equipment.
