    Job Description

    The Medical Assistant is under the direction of the Supervisor and Provider. This position participates in a variety of routine clinical tasks including quality assurance, preparing patients for the provider and assisting with examinations and any special procedures as requested.

    Responsibilities:
    • Prepares charts for provider
    • Escorts patients in order of scheduled appointments from the waiting area to the appropriate exam room
    • Records vital signs, review patient history, complete patient assessment form, review previous information and assure patient is ready for provider
    • Specimen collection (phlebotomy, biopsies, cultures) labeling and completing lab requisition forms
    • Assists provider with examination, and special procedures as needed
    • Order and document prescriptions, new and refills, according to the provider's specifications
    • Maintains exam rooms, lab, procedure room, and instruments by keeping them clean, sterilized and stocked. Log and perform daily quality assurance procedures
    • Orders necessary medical supplies, keeping accurate and documentable inventory
    • Schedules patients for diagnostic testing, laboratory procedures, referrals to specialists as appropriate and communicate this to patients
    • Follows up to ensure all requested tests, laboratory results, etc. are completed and reviewed by the physician
    • Conduct patient education
    • Return patient phone calls in an efficient and timely manner
    • Ensures that all medical equipment is in good working order and reports equipment malfunctions to Clinic Supervisor
    • Apply DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program, or on the job training as demonstrated upon request. Ability to apply the skills of self-motivation and project development. Ability to read, interpret and apply policies, procedures and legal requirements. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making consistent with organizational objectives. Proven ability to analyze and solve problems to deliver results. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills necessary to successfully represent the department and organization at all levels, internally and externally. Excellent computer skills, knowledge of software with willingness and initiative to learn. Familiarity with standard office equipment. Requires prolonged sitting, lifting, bending, stooping and stretching. Ability to handle multiple tasks in timely manner.
